Our day started with a plant walk with Tomas Elpell. He taught us how to recognize 8 different plant families. He had us look at, smell, and taste different plants growing here. Then showed us how to identify plants with plant keys. All of us had a great time.

Only two more days of lectures then we have our design presentations. Everybody here is tinkering with their ideas until late.

Tomorrow we have our group presentations and get to be corrected or encouraged by Alan, Paul, and Chase.

I was so busy I didn't get any pictures of the daytime. But tonight has a bright full moon across from the setting sun. Enjoy

I found a picture of your paarse morgenster. It is beautiful. I think you Dutch have a purple variety while we have a yellow. I'm going to spread these around here for the roots too.

Hi Kyle,
we have both, purple and yellow!
The yellow one (Gele morgenster, Tragopogon pratensis) is smaller. And as far as I know there is no edible root.
And then there is the Black salsify, with the Dutch name Schorseneren (Scorzonera hispanica), with a black edible root. It has bright yellow (lemon yellow) flowers.

Pushing onto the final stretch here. We gobbled up two lectures on animal systems, one on aquaculture, and one on food storage.

Alan went over nearly every animal humans domesticate, from chickens and pigs to pigeons and bats.

We learned about a bunch of different aquaculture setups and the historical uses in different climates.

Ended the day with all the ways to store your amazing food in ways to make it last. Fermentation with lactic acid and dairy, canning, root cellars, smoking, drying, and bulk grain storage. It was the longest lecture of the day and we are all pretty enthusiastic about good food.

After dinner came our group presentations, I think our design was good overall and I'm going to adjust and add a few things for my own.

The lectures are all done! Woo!

Today's material was all about designs that are invisible to the eye; culture, economics, money, and legal structures.

We ended the day by walking up the mountain, ending our two weeks with a silent walk through nature. Once all of us arrived at the top, Alan spoke to us about mentorship, forging human connections between generations, and helping each other even after we are done here.

We had a pizza fest for dinner, made about 18 I think. Then we got busy getting our individual designs squared away. It's going to take me a few more hours to get everything on paper.
