Hello!

I loved Fall Fest so much that I decided to stay on for a while as a Boot.  On a random note, if I could be any kind of boot I'd probably be a Doc Martin.

I did lots of things on my first day as a Boot including a bunch of post Fall Fest cleanup. While cleaning the classroom,  I noticed the brooms weren't hung and made this:

I also re-covered one of the chairs with this awesome fabric that Dez selected

He has good taste.

Speaking of good taste, I wanted to show you my favorite tomato that Stephen grew

I hope you had a great day too!

Happy Halloween and Samhain. (BRK #2)

As we enter into the darkest time of the year, it seems fitting that I spent most of my day in the shop making a light.

Stay tuned to see it installed tomorrow. While we worked, we tuned into Paul's podcast on my phone, and learned something about Basketball.

To celebrate the holiday we all watched a movie together, but we only got one trick or treater

Did some light cleaning on the Red Cabin this morning, just perfect for submitting the sweep a floor Badge Bit. Here it is all clean, if a bit wet from the snow.

Here are the lights from yesterday installed

The pots contain ginger, turmeric, chives, basil, coriander and there are also sweet potato slips starting.

I also repaired one of the rugs, and I wanted to show off my Halloween socks that I forgot I packed.

It has been cold this week, so we've been staying warm with the Rocket Mass Heaters on the property.

Today, it was warmer, but all rainy. The rain took the last of the snow and left mud :/

I worked on a secret project in the morning. In the afternoon we restocked most of the wood at Basecamp.

And I set up storage for the linen in the Solarium.

I hope you were warm and dry today :)

Happy Friday!

Today started out cold and dreary. The junkpole fences look really creepy in the fog...

In the morning I worked inside cleaning and storing dried seed: sunflowers and corn.

In the afternoon, it was lovely out. Perfect weather for Stephen and I to work on mounting solar panels to a rack at Allerton Abbey. Meanwhile, the cats at Base Camp thought the weather was purrfect for a cuddle puddle.

I hope you have someone to share affection with too!   (BRK #5)

Today is Saturday, so the Boots have free time. I spent most of my day cooking. I made a Thai style chicken soup, some veggie broth to share, some aioli (garlic mayo) that I turned into salad dressing for Paul, a vinaigrette for me, and prepared some horseradish.

Stephen decided to do some cooking too. Here he is with a big bowl of Polydough. I think he turned it into pancakes. With rasins.

I spotted Dez at the kitty house while I was washing dishes.

After cooking I moved over to the Red Cabin to make way for the WWOOFer (I hope I spelled that right) coming tomorrow. It sure is cozy here in bed.

G'night! (BRK #6)

Today everyone started repairing the junkpole fence at Allerton Abby.

Dez caught me taking his picture and struck a pose.

Then I told him to give me his best supermodel pose

But I think he gave me back pain pose instead.

Later, Owen (the WWOOFer) learned to use the chop saw while we worked on the battery box.

I hope you got to meet someone new today!

Happy Taco Tuesday.

We finished repairing the junkpole fence and the gate this morning. We spotted these birds nearby, can you spot them in my picture?

This s tree was near where we were working. Can you spot the sasquatch that bent it?

Just kidding on the Sasquatch. We worked on the battery box again in the afternoon, and took a quick trip to the sawmill, but my phone was charging so I didn't get any pictures.

G'night!

Remember those birds from yesterday? North American Wildlife by Reader's Digest says they are Pine Grosbeak- Picture matches, Lives in northern cold mountains. Eats pine tree seeds. Check, Check. Check.

First thing this morning I got to use the shave horse to debark some junk poles.

Here is the Teepee gate we repaired yesterday (and Stephen being silly).

And here is the new latch we made for it today using those poles.

It was Appleseed day, so we planted fruit tree seeds, then made apple treats with the polydough we made yesterday, and capped it all off with a movie.

We were all grinding hard today.

Owen showed a natural aptitude for it.

After we got that done, I mixed some cob and it went on top of the bun warmer. We finished up the day working on a lid/roof for the battery box from earlier this week.

I hope you nailed your day too!

Hooray for Friday!
This morning we repaired another gate.

I snapped a picture of the lovely view.

Then we mixed up more cob and added to the Bun Warmer cob hat.

And finished up with more work on the battery box.

I hope your Friday was successful as well!

I spent today making curtains for the bunks in the solarium.

Hopefully, I can finish up tomorrow.
(If you are male, feel free to ignore the rest)
This project coincided with the beginning of shark week for me. I brought my own supplies , but there are also these great moon boxes in every willow feeder.

Each box seems to have a slightly different assortment.

In case you were wondering, yes, there is a related bb: sew a feminine pad BB

Yesterday I forgot to post, but I was finishing the curtains.
Solarium Bunk Curtains

This morning I re-covered another chair. It is really simple to do. First you take the seat off the chair, then you staple fabric to it.

Reupholstering a chair

Then you trim the fabric and reattach the seat.

Then Stephen and I mixed more cob for the Bun Warmer.

We finished up the cob topper on it.

Then we fired it up and enjoyed it.

Happy Bun Warmer Day!

More sewing!

I have the privilege of patching a pair of Paul's overalls :)

I spent most of the morning lying on a blanket by a fire...

Hard at work pinning what will be one of the 4 new panels for the solarium.

Then we mixed some special cob with perlite for the bun warmer.

Happy Taco Tuesday!

I finished patching Paul's overalls.

Yesterday I noticed that the cats figured out how to open the door to the Cattyshack in the Solarium, and I told Stephen. He came up with the cutest latch ever and I helped him work on version 1.0.

It looks great, but is not yet performing as expected.

We finished off the day at the sawmill.

Now we have supplies for wooden box day!

I pinned another solarium curtain-to-be

And only drew blood once.

The cast of live-action Bambi was all out today at the Lab.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?

I made pie crust and pumpkin puree :)

This morning I worked on the giant solarium drapes.

While sewing I also made a cushion for the red cabin mass bench.

Then it was wooden box day, so I made one.

Then I made this meme for you, showing the movie we watched.

This is my final BRK post this time, I can't stay longer. With that in mind, I finished quilting fabric for that second Solarium curtain and put all the supplies away labeled and returned the equipment. I donated a large cutting mat, a quilting ruler, and a rotary cutter and spare blade to the supplies. If you are a sewer or quilter and want to work on the Solarium drapes while at Wheaton Labs/Basecamp send me a pm and I'll happily give you details.

After that I had lunch in Missoula- could be more smokey.

Next stop was the carousel, I rode the dragon and caught a green ring.

Then, on to the library.

I spotted a librarian shelving a familiar book.

In addition to books you could also check out cake pans and seeds!

The seeds weren't that well labelled; zea mays (corn) doesn't tell me if it is sweet, flint, dent or popcorn, for example.
And there weren't many to choose from, mostly three sisters, but it was nice to see a seed library among the books.
