I am so frustrated with toasters. In winter we keep our wood cook stove going and grilling is easy. But when the stove isn’t going we do use an electric toaster. We have been through a few in the last few years, including an expensive toaster over. I want to find a reliable and simple toaster or an alternative method of toasting bread when we are not using our wood stove.  HELP!

I have found the utility of an electric hot plate to be beneficial at places with small kitchens. I'll use my cast iron and make toast in that.

If you have a regular stovetop, heat up a cast iron skillet or griddle and then turn it to its lowest setting. Toast your bread. Turn the burner off.

We bought one of these new multi-function air fryer devices a couple years ago and it does a bunch of things well. (Staying clean is not one of the things it does well.) We got rid of our old four-slot toaster.

We have the standard two-slice toaster.

Dear hubby makes his toast that way.

I make mine in the toaster oven because I only want the bread toasted on one side.

I also have a cast iron griddle that I sometimes use to make grill cheese sandwiched or french toast.

As a couple folks mention above, a dry cast iron skillet with a lid makes wonderful toast!  .....on electric, gas and wood stoves.

LOL!....yeah, I may go to a nearby auto body shop soon to use their sandblaster for cleaning the viewing glass!  With that kind of heat and the purpose of frying, the impregnated burnt oil build-up the inside is a sight to behold.  Putting the entire oven in our top-loading clothes washer just triggered immediate imbalance signal!  (....kidding...)

But it keeps working...... and toasted cheese sandwiches are a forte of the design! :-P
