My lady and I decided to foster two sibling puppies, a little boy and girl.  We got them on a Saturday, and one of the puppies, the little girl, was already adopted by a family for pickup the following Monday.  We dropped her off with her new family on Monday without issues.  But then, massive fail.  We fell in love with the little boy that was staying with us.  Please meet the newest addition to our family.

Look at those eyes!

Sometimes when it is right, it is right. Congratulations on the new family member.

Foster fail is one of the best fails. My cat is a foster fail (of sorts). She was placed in my care as a foster, pending a spay. I knew immediately that I wanted to keep her. This was all in February 2020.

Due to the events of March 2020, the animal shelter never followed up with me on a spay or adoption paperwork (or fee, for that matter). They're frequently max capacity, and probably just let us slip through the cracks. I don't think anyone is unhappy with the result.

Congrats on your boy! May you have many happy and healthy years.

That's not failing, that's to be expected. Failing is when you decide to back out of the fostering. I am currently fostering a bonded pair of senior dogs only cause I can not afford the vet bills just yet (seems everything broke this year and needed to be replaced which more than drained me.) They will be adopted at the end of winter

The puppies go faster than free money, which is why I tend to gravitate to the ones that are senior and the most difficult to place. Greta and Gunny's previous dad was having health issues, in and out of the hospital and had major heart surgery this month. They had been looking to place them for 4 months (at least they weren't shelter bound, still at his house till they came my way.) The previous senior bonded pair I adopted were in the shelter for 10 months. No one wanted them cause they were senior, bonded pair, and didn't get along with any other pets or livestock or young children. Being a senior myself and alone with no other animals besides wild ones, I was a perfect match for them. Before that, there was Olfric. A Rin Tin Tin type of senior German Shepard who was abused harshly in Arkansas. He made a long trip up north to safety. He had been fostered for 2 years with out being adopted. Besides being a senior (10 at my adoption), he also had health issues due to the neglect and abuse.

It takes a really strong person to foster or adopt senior dogs.  I'm glad you're doing it, and I hope some day to be able to do the same.  I'm not sure I'm strong enough to do it.

I would have failed in the first five minutes or even before I got out of the door after consenting to foster.

That little guy is just too adorable.

I bet you are a proud papa...

Start with small one that is easy to handle and would be a lap dog. Of course emotionally it is draining when they only stick around for 3-5 years. Makes you try and appreciate the time even more.
