our local feed store has austrian winter peas for around a dollar a pound.
I need to get some soon so will come back with an exact price.
Fortunately most of what they sell in bulk we can also buy by the pound for a bit more.
I buy other cover crop seeds from azure...wheat and rye.
Their organic wheat and rye berries germinate great and are reasonably priced for a 5# bag.
rye was $1 a pound and hard red wheat $1.29 per # on an order I just picked up yesterday.

There are some great suppliers online. But to do a cost comparison it will all come down to shipping cost to your locale. Find a good local seed store and tell them what you need. If they can't get it then go online to the nearest region. I like green cover crops, but they are local to the midwest region. Petcher's seed in the southeast is also a good source. along with Handcock seed in Florida. I am not familiar with the northeast.
I hate to pay for shipping so I always check my local feed or seed sources first.

Howdy,
I have just planted organic seeds that I get in bulk at natural food stores, like soy beans, seeds for edible sprouts(alfalfa,mung,...) and just broadcast them in my garden/yard.
My local feed and seed store has the 50# bag for $42 or $1.50 if buy by the pound. I bought small grains from that store before for direct broadcasting of cover crops. Usually wheat, rye and oat are $12-16 for $50#. I haven't tried winter pea before because the seeds are bigger and the ground is usually too hard by the end of the year for the seeds to take roots. Do you plan on tilling the soil for dedicated cover crop plot? I'd like to have them growing amidst the grassy yard but there is no way to break up the ground to sow the seeds in.
