Improving the permies.com sign-up process

Super simple process. A pleasure, really.

We just had someone else report this same issue. You should stay logged in for at least a month without having to log in again. Maybe if we have more info, our programmer can figure out what's going on. Would you be willing to share what browser and device/computer/operating system you are using?

On a related note, since my Samsung tablet died, I have been using a borrowed iPad thingy. Every time I close the browser down It is logging me out and I have to log back in again. A pain, because it doesn’t remember my login details....

If you don’t add all the info by mistake you are doomed. You can’t even start over as it associates your email with a problem.

I messed up the first time I did it, but it still let me sign in. I did have to do like 20 captcha things, though. That was really annoying!

Melissa, would you be able to tell us a bit more? Were you trying to sign up on a mobile device or desktop? We're you signing up to get a freebie, or to make a post, or some other avenue?

We've been trying to get to the bottom of why some people aren't finishing the sign-up process, but couldn't find any glitches despite our testing. But, I never thought to test having someone not fill out all the information. But, you're probably not the only one! Hopefully we can figure out the problem and fix it.

I tried to sign up. but got 'Throwed Off"  (Florida Cracker speak")
Throwed is past tense of 'throw', case you didn't Know.

I can see now, after 25 years in Public School Education, ( Retired)  Special Ed, I'm gonna have to start teachin' and preachin all over again.
First All, we gonna do a course in  Conversin' , and  Speakin'  "Southernese".
This is gonna be an Intensive course.

I would say, it would be nice to have A placeholder with all important links here in our accounts rather than in emails.
Maybe A process on how to navigate links as well for better educational process.

I'm kind of a techno phobe so I might be doing something wrong. But why do I have to redo sign up everytime I want to reply to a post you sent in my email? Isn't there a shortcut once your in a conversation and already on the list for daily news?

Hello I tried to sign up . I got sent a link to verify and clicked immediately to finish the sign up . But it just stated :This link is invalid or no longer available.

Kind of stumbled through it
I'm not a computer or phone guy but it kinda works,I'm here so hi to everyone, really like this site so much to learn and from friendly helpful people

When you find a post that you want to follow, instead of using the watch settings to receive an email when it’s updated, you can bookmark the topic from the banner at the top of the thread.

The “tinkering with this site” has lots of useful tutorials https://permies.com/f/11/tnk   and is well worth exploring.

At the bottom of each thread, there are recommendations of similar threads to similar topics where you can get lost down a rabbit hole of interesting discussions.

Kathy, what is actually happening when you say that you keep getting kicked off ?

Do you mean that that you have to keep signing in?

If so, check your browser settings. You may have it set to clear your history when you close the browser, in which case you will have to log in to Permies each time that you re open the browser.

When replying to a post there is a "post reply" or "quick reply" button below the thread on the left-hand side.

The "New Topic" button is at the top of a forum on the right-hand side.

Please reply if you are still having problems.

It could be me, it could be you, it could be a combination of both. Signing up was not the issue but I received a link to the presentation with Helen Atthowe and I just keep going in circles trying to access it. Each time I click on the link it says I have to sign up. when I sign in I can’t seem to find the access to it and there does not appear to be a search option on the site. Thank you

Wasn't too pleased with the registration activation email I got. Had something to do with "bags" and "bombs". I replied in an aggressive nature, not knowing it was suppose to be some sort of humor. And I am now sorry. Maybe keep the jokes out of it in the future.

Uploading photos is proving to be quite challenging for me.
