I'm delighted with the amount of interest expressed here in both my book and the topic in general. I started three new threads in the cooking forum, with more information, and places to ask questions, share recipes and resources, and discuss alternatives to baking powder.

Basic Kitchen Chemistry
DIY Leavening Power - Recipes!
So, what did cooks do before baking powder was invented? - Resources!

I hope to see you all on some of them!

Oh cool. People could have used that book last year when you couldn't buy yeast or baking powder anywhere for months. Maybe we won't all have to get a sourdough starter going?

Thank you Jeff!

Gail, so yeast and baking powder were included in last year's shortages? Gosh, I didn't know. But then, I'm stocked up and yeast and never buy baking powder, so they weren't things I was looking for.

Yes, you're right about how helpful these simple skills are. We never know when we're going to need them. You only have to get the sourdough starter going if you like sourdough!

Wow! I just found out I was allergic to baking powder, so I'm really interested in owning a copy of your book and wondering what substs I might be able to use.

Reviews look great!

Teresa, welcome to Permies! What a bummer to be allergic to baking powder. (What a bummer to be allergic to anything!) Do you know which specific ingredient your'e allergic to? Even so, they are many, many ways to get good leavening without it, and all from things we all keep on hand in the kitchen.

Welcome Leigh! I enjoy your writing very much. Will (or are) all the titles in your series be available in print? Because what if the power is kaput! I ordered this book in hard copy, can't wait for it to get here. Thank you for sharing your dreams, and your work.

Thank you Lynn! Besides this one, my only other paperbacks are 5 Acres & A Dream: The Book, 5 Acres & A Dream: The Sequel, Critter Tales, and Prepper's Livestock Handbook. (They're all listed at my Kikobian book website, see the link in my signature).

My original plan was to publish a paperback of homestead how-tos, but everybody was raving about eBooks at the time, so i ventured into that learning curve by breaking the how-tos down into individual eBooks. Most of them are too short to publish as individual paperbacks, but the potential subject matter is never ending, so I'm nowhere nearer to a comprehensive paperback now, than I was before.

If you purchase the PDF copies through Permies Digital Market , I give explicit copyright permission to print one personal copy. Right now, that's the only option for hard copies of The Little Series of Homestead How-Tos.

Thank you, Leigh and Nicole

This was a fun week and I enjoyed learning about all the ingredients that can be used instead of baking powder.
