yes, i stayed up that night too, but i'm guessing he hasn't hit his target yet so is keeping registration open (just a guess), since he has postponed course start (release of the first video) up till the 12th

guess i was so into it at first and everything, devoured the intro videos etc, and now feel like i'm cooling my heels waiting for all the tardies to get it together to sign up and fill his quota.

i've been showing permaculture videos at the yogaville community once a week for about a month now, but think i will expand that if possible to a couple times a week

set aside a day to go there and do a marathon watching the latest course video twt

I'm in too. Pete from Indiana.
Excited to learn the science behind the design.

I've been watching the info videos and being a sponge. This format works great for me and my family. Not easy to get away for a long weekend.

Another forum to get help. Thank Paul and his empire for all the work he's put in spreading the word.

I'm in. Signed in the first morn, though it was only because my little one had an ear ache and I was going through my e-mail, while we waited for his pain med to kick in. I actually thought sign up was the next morning. Thanks for the welcome at my intro, Jen. Any of you know what the "follow" link means or does? I've followed some people who live in the area, and am being followed by atleast one, but haven't figured out what it's s'pose to do. I am so excited to be doing this course, and so glad so many of "us" are there too Ray

Each user has a sort of feed. It's not as intuitive as facebook and as far as I can tell the only way to really get to it is to click my own username link from one of my comments.

That being said, everything I post (and comments to it) are in there and anything posted by someone I've followed is in there.

Hi, I'm glad to see there's a group here, too. Thanks Paul, and everyone.

On Lawton's site I'm Jan D. There is another Jan who is actively writing/posting.

I was one of the excited people who set the alarm clock for 3am. Luckily I did it a day earlier than I understood the sign up day to be. Either I was confused, or it's simply confusing to everyone
because of it being world wide.

I'm grateful for all the helpful people and extra sites open to us, like this one and the TSP on Lawton's site.
I'm not computer savvy at all, so I'll follow the offered tutorials.

Yet another person who stayed up until midnight to sign up

I'm so excited for all this info, I churned through the everything that's available on the site by the second day. Has anyone else noticed that the trees section has the intro video available - I think I've followed every link on the site in search of more info!

Hi All,

I have just got my PDC from RLI, and I have signed up for Geoff's one now

Rebecca Holman wrote:That way we can discuss outside of that online community things that Paul does differently without creating some sort of community on there that may alienate those folks.

Well, I always try to look for similarities rather than differences. If both Paul and Geoff do something similar, it assures me that it should work for me as well

Good luck with the course everyone.

Hi All
Yes I too stayed up to get a spot that first night.
Looking forward to expanding my knowledge and learning from everyone.
Thanks for providing a Permie spot for further sharing of the 2014 course.
I'm up near Tonasket on almost 70 acres of rangeland looking to use our land for my design submission.
This will be a great experience I am sure!

Like the other 'vets', I am looking forward to "reading the landscape"

Any of y'all who want tips and tricks on using SketchUp to assist you as a design tool can ask me for help too.

For those who really find the whole 'building' side of Geoff's course too short and want to know more, please let me know how you are interested and I will try and steer you towards information.

Well, It has officially closed and Geoff has put back up his regular page, so they have closed the back door and the PDC officially begins.

If anyone gets the email or sees the post about getting the Design manual at cost, that Geoff said he would post this week, alert us here to let us know where to go to look.

I'll keep my eyes open for you.

I expect it will be a separate video message or as part of the Q&A release when it comes out. That's very much Geoff's preferred mode of communication in the course.

you do need the http:// when you post it in to your profile so it will be https://permies.com/geoffpdc

So if any of you DON"T have personal websites you want to drive people in Geoff's PDC to, maybe you would consider using this shortened link in your Profile over there..lets see what we can do, and also we may well find other long lost permies that are taking the course as well.

I'm a bit scared I'll have a hard time keeping up... I'll probably have to read the book four times to make sure I retain it all as I haven't been a student for 13 years, have a day job, and two young kids haha!

My husband and I have 3 acres and are planning to use it as the project so I can't wait to get going! We have a couple of permaculture projects going already but I'm sure the knowledge we will get from this course will change all of our ideas.

Im so glad this thread is up, I'm sure we will all be on here like crazy!! I look forward to working with everyone in the up coming weeks!

Don't worry Rachel. The course will run for it's allotted time and then the material will STILL be there for a long time.

He only took the information down a few times over the last year due to website issues or maintenance. We alums could dip into the course as often as we wished. Even now, I have access to the bones of the course that hasn't been released to new students yet to use as a reference, which is also on my physical DVD set of the course.

It's lacking the notes and comments from last year as those were cleared to prepare the ground for the 2014 students... but that's ok with me.
If you weren't aware, even with a deadline in the course, Geoff has continued to accept projects from 2013 students who were unable to finish on time and been continuing to issue certificates for those who earned them, however late. Even if he closes the door now for the 2013 students who haven't been certified by this time that still means there's been 9? 10? months of flexibility for those who asked for it.

Sometimes I think we forget who we're dealing with here. This is Geoff Lawton, not Harvard university. Geoff wants more practitioners and more teachers. I am in no way surprised that he included a deadline and not surprised at all that he more or less ignored it for those who were able to finish the design work but not "on time". Spreading the good word, infecting new brains, changing the world.

Hi Mike Leo, Jan D from Geoff's online class
Are you able to help out with the online problem that occurs when trying to order the Designer's Manual. Someone posted they encountered an "unsafe site' message, so they didn't order. I got that too, so did not order.
A third person DID go ahead and order and was charged twice.
When I wrote directly to Targari I got an out dated auto reply, and it was from "no reply targari". I did put this on the site under home, under the first person's comment.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you, Jamie,
I did write to sales @tagari.com. They're the ones that had the automatic reply. I guess I'm confused. I thought that after April 3rd they'd be checking emails daily.
Someone had posted that they had the unsafe warning the first time they tried. The second time they did not, so they ordered, but were charged twice.
That's why I'm hesitating to order.
I'm glad that you had success. I'm sure it'll be straightened out for everyone very soon.
Thanks for the input.

I'm enjoying the course very much. I couldn't wait for it to start, lol. I never felt like this about school.

I also got the unsafe site message. Seems like their certificate expired a couple weeks ago. I personally took my chances and proceeded anyway

I wish that the top permaculture people (and their helpers) would be on top of technology and marketing. Those little things are not good for the movement.

Yes, their certificate has expired and the warning refers to that, which can be really ignored.

I have another problem with the book order - it does not include the discount. I have entered the code as advised in Geoff's email and the price is not changing.

If there are issues with the book order process I would recommend that anyone concerned that they open a support ticket directly from the OPDC site.

I'm sure they're aware of the issues but they can only help you fix them if you report it through official channels.

Thanks, Mike Leo
I didn't realize that the OPDC site was the official site, because I read they were separate, and they said to contact sales@tagari.com with problems.
But what you are saying makes perfect sense since the other doesn't function.
I'll take your advice and thank you very much for all your help for this and all the questions that you give great answers to.

A customer support staff member has replied to your support request, #639173 with the following response:

Hi Jan
It may be you have to tell your bank you're making an international transaction. Usually it is OK then.
Please contact Tagari if you have any problems about the manual. We are not selling it.

I'm frustrated.

Yes, I did tell them Tagari has a noreply message.
I tried Tagari today, and their message is still noreply, but gives the dates they'll be closed for Easter. Starting the 16th, but it's not the 16th yet.
My current problem is they won't accept my visa card. It is a current card with a zero dollar balance, in good standing, always.
They suggest I contact the bank, which I'll do tomorrow.

Does anybody understand how the "follow" thing works on the website? I have "followed" a couple of people, but I have no idea what that allows me to do. I heard something about a Facebook style home page, but I haven't seen it.

OK, this will get complicated quick I apologize for that.

When you follow an email link to the site it brings you to to the video page with the post but then you may have to search a bit for one you were notified for.

When you just log in from the main page it brings you to the "HOME" page where there is a link to read your private messages and (at least for me) the welcome to the course video and associated comments in the main content frame.

Now, if I track down one of my comments and click on the Leos.Mike hyperlink provided it brings me to ANOTHER page. On this page the content is anything I've commented on within a certain amount of time and anything someone I've followed has commented on. I believe that is the page you are referring to.

I have not found another way to get to it and mostly I use it to figure out which post the latest reply I have received was on.

I called my bankcard today, and they confirmed they wouldn't proceed with my book order to Australia, from the US without me calling them . That was nice.
I ordered the book and received a confirmation that Tagari has the order and is charging $84 to my Visa.
So excited that it worked out.
I did still see some Designer Manuals for various prices on the US Amazon. Someone mentioned that somewhere they were sold out, forget where.

I think the notification feature is not working for me. Have any of you received a notification? Was it an email, or a private message within the website? I've gotten neither. I put in a support ticket request on that. . .

Mike, thanks for the technique for finding my "home page." I've made a bookmark for it, to save time in the future. Very useful page, to try to filter the vast river of commentary that is flowing at that website! Working full time, there's no way I could follow all of that, but if I pick the right people to follow, they can help me curate. . .
