Project of the Week!

Hi Everyone!

We are introducing a new little dealio on permies.com called "Project of the Week-or-so"

The idea is to show that here are all these people all over the globe doing amazing things and moving permaculture towards "total world domination!" It will also show new folks that there is a process - it doesn't happen overnight, even on a small urban plot or even a balcony.


Here are the details:

Your project thread would consist of tons of pictures and details about your land and individual projects. It should include the name of your project, the location, climate, and permaculture expertise level might be listed too. This way total newbies will be encouraged to post as well as more experienced folks.

All you have to do is post your permaculture project threads in the Project Forum and then "report" the post with a note that says which other applicable forums it should be added to so that the moderators can add them. For example, if your project is mostly about your hugelkultur beds, still post it in the projects forum, but report it with a note that says "my project thread needs to be added to hugelkultur forum". It is completely possible for one person to have many different project threads all from their land.

Easy enough?!

Then the staff will pick a winner each week.

Oh yeah the prize! The prize for the winner of the project of the week will be 3 apples!

So..... Get to posting your project threads!

This thread sounds amazing I look forward to checking out a project each week. Keep up the great post, videos, and emails and thanks.

Should the topic include anything to mark it related to this dealio? I didn't see anything posted so far and i just now got around to reading this dailyish email. I have a bunch of level 1.5(maybe) projects going on that i can post about and pictures as well from the past year. Since i recently got my first apple, and a recent podcast talked about people with low post counts(like me) and lots of apples, i am interested in competing. Ha. No really, i have intended to but always too busy with projects (and daily grind type stuff) to get around to it. This is a great idea...i think

Nope. Just put it in the projects forum. We will choose any of the projects in this forum.

Right now I'm working on a living fence. I have been cutting the post pieces from largish diameter branches which have had limbs chop off to form Y saddles.
I am tresseling a wild type of creeping raspberry which I have been harvesting, steering and forcing since I was young. The largest best berries of the type I know of. Location helps facing west along a blacktop road so lots extra of sun heat and CO2. It's only going to be about 2.5 tall I think, minus the trellessy bits. Just need to keep in geese and a fairly well behaved mongrel.

Tools used:

1) My Howe and Company (of Seattle) saber finished Occident notching axe.
2) My Express (Degree sign) [inside diamond insignia] - I read as: Diamond Espresso
3) Big ol' steel digging bar.
4) Hands. No wait. 2) hands. 4) hands would be lovely. Being some sort of Hindu god would be better.

Can these project threads be on-going and still qualify? Like, do we need to keep making new threads to be eligible, or can we just keep updating a big thread and be eligible for "Project of the Week"?

Also, could our projects be like journals with permaculture musings related to our project, as well as updates on said project?

I will attempt to present my accomplishments in an after video followed by a "before" slideshow for each property. Just have to decide when the work is really done...

Why not have a project of the month and then in Dec have a vote with all the monthly winners getting a prize . ( unclaimed prizes from book promotions maybe )

They can definitely be on-going and still qualify! They can be project threads that were started months ago or two days ago. It really doesn't matter. It can be one big thread, definitely, but it would also be cool to have several different threads for individual projects. That is up to you though.

And I think adding journal-esque permaculture musings sound lovely. I don't see why that would be a problem.
