This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the
PEP curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in
round wood working.
This BB will be building a simple saw buck and there are two designs you can undertake to complete this. A saw buck can be a very useful tool, and is similar to a saw horse, but has added top supports to hold wood even more steady while sawing or shaping the wood.
The two methods are:
Y branches: Two green forked branches with a dry leg added to each
Log with legs and cradle: One big green log or half log with 4 dry legs and at least 4 dry pegs for cradling the workpiece
Here's how to do the Y branch method:

Here's how to do the log with legs method. It starts with the legs already inserted, but you can see that process in the video for the
saw horse BB.
To get certified for this BB, post three pics.
- Your chunks of wood that you are starting with
- Progress about half way through, with the hand tools you have decided to use for this
- Final product
Clarifications:
- "Hand tools" means non-powered tools. No battery/electrically powered drills
- Log sections can be harvested with a chainsaw
