This is a Badge Bit (BB) that is part of the PEP Curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Natural Medicine.

For this BB you will create a tincture out of St. John’s Wort blossoms.

Mountain Rose Herbs video on how to make a tincture:

To show you've completed this BB you must post pictures of the following:

- picture of the St. John’s Wort blossoms, freshly harvested
- picture of the tincture being made
- picture of the finished tincture in its labeled jar.

Here’s my St. John’s wort tincture. Love how it turns red. I prefer to slightly sun dry my flowers for a day to remove excess moisture prior to tincturing to prolong shelf life.

I was delighted to find St. John's Wort growing on the side of the road on Martha's Vinyard since it doesn't grow wild in my area. I have it home now and have started a tincture. Please note that the first pic is my own. I uploaded it to an app called Seek by iNaturalist to confirm that the flowers were St. John's Wort like I thought.

Took me a while to finish uploading, but here is the finished tincture.

Late morning foraging for SJW blooms. The weather is strange, most are dying off from
Dry heat or not quite ready to be picked. I put some of the blooms in a small jar, covered in everclear, let sit for a couple weeks, shook regularly, and strained. Ready for use 😊

That's a very big dog. I think I want to go home now and hug this tiny ad:
