This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Natural Medicine.

For this BB, you will create a rose blossom salve using plant material you harvested.

Minimum requirements:
  - Create a healing salve
  - Use rose blossoms

To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (< 2 minutes):
  - Harvested plant material (either being harvested or just harvested)
  - Plant material in oil with a description of the oil and other ingredients you used in the oil or added to salve
  - Making the salve

My kids and I found wild rose, blossoming beautifully while out on a walk. We harvested them in my hat! Haha! and brought them home. Oil infusions are best made with the plant material wilted or slightly dried, so there is no extra moisture to make the mixture mold as it infuses. I infused mine on the windowsil, also called a Sun Infusion. After a few days, I decided to make two things out of my infusion: a face lotion Dr. Nicole Apelian gave me a recipe for, and a lip balm (salve) The other ingredients for the face lotion are cottonwood bud, calendula, coconut oil, yarrow, water, and beeswax. The other ingredients for the lip balm are calendula, coconut oil, essential oil, shea butter, and beeswax. What fun!

I found photos from last year and realized I hadn't submitted them, yet.
I harvested 2 varieties of roses and air-dried them. I used a slow cooker to infuse the rose petals and some dried rose hips in sweet almond oil.

2 jars are pictured, showing one strained and one not strained. I added sugar to the not strained one for a sugar scrub.

For the salve, I melted wax in the slow cooker, added shea butter, and stirred in the oil. Things got a little messy when I poured the hot mixture into the salve jars.
