our most ambitious project to date!

Wheaton Labs is hiring a Videographer (or two) to capture the first year of GAMCOD in 2023!

The output of this project will be 2-fold:
Output 1) The establishment of 5 perennial food systems, at the high end of the Wheaton Eco Scale (level 8 or higher), capable of producing abundant sustenance, such that a person could meet their nutritional needs with sourcing nearly all their food from the plot.
Output 2) The production of a narrative-style internet video series about the pursuit of Output 1.

The goal of the video series is 2 parts experimentation 3 parts inspiration.  Probably lumped into the "edutainment documentary" sub-genre, with maybe a little bit of not-horrible reality tv sprinkled in.  We won't have any need to add extra drama - cultivating a sustainable food-producing ecosystem surely will provide all the drama we need, right?  Right?

G  how it started
A  more about how it started
M requirements
C  the twenty crops
O  the control patch
D  the kickstarter

The contest will run from April 1 to October 31, 2023.  Some gardeners will choose to come early, between January 1 and March 31, to prepare their plot.  The Videographer(s) will be responsible for documenting all project development during, before, and following the contest.

Name your own pay!  What sounds dreamy for permaculture video stuff?  $30 per hour? $40 per hour?

The Videographer position(s) will be full-time from April 1 to October 31, 2023.  40 hours per week, every week.  Prior to April 1, the position is expected to be part-time, around 20 hours per week.  Part-time responsibilities may begin as early as January 1, 2023.  Invoices will be submitted twice per month with hours logged, and pay will be issued as a 1099 contractor.  All required benefits, living expenses, equipment, storage media, and maintenance, and anything else must be paid by the videographer, out of the project manager's hourly wage, so submit your proposed hourly rate accordingly.  Each applicant must specify their required hourly rate.

It is expected that the videographer will secure accommodations.  It is possible that those accommodations will be at one of Wheaton Labs' rental structures (paid for by the videographer), on-site in an rv or similar, or at a nearby rental.  Some applicants may wish to come solo, some may wish to bring family or significant others.

I've got to think there are some incredible folks interested in this that have yet to apply.  Does anyone have questions about what the role entails?

Couple of? Clarification?
6 gardeners - 5 contestants and one understudy. Contestants need to submit a plan, does understudy need to follow that plan when taking a contestant roll. ( Assuming their smart enough not to bulldoze everything and not restart from scratch. Instead take bones of what they end up with and revamp it to their own vision.)
Are contestants plots near or part of ant village or any "unclaimed acer" laying on Lab property?
Could videographer submit in their request willingness to become replacement understudy if original understudy needs to become contestant?
What does the understudy do while waiting for a contestant to find the chains of Paul's tyranny too much to bare? Random Lab list of planting projects? Gappers that watch clouds?
Videographer is stated to provide video equipment and editing tools. What internet/power infrastructure do they have access to to produce and submit videos?

I suppose some videographers will rent a house nearby and will supply all their own stuff.

Some might set up in our library.
