Coriander or Cardamom in Coffee?

I just can't remember.


Jen puts a spice into her coffee. She was generous enough to share both the tip and some of her whole grains of the spice.

I just can't seem to remember which spice it actually is.

I was humorously confused about it up at Wheaton Labs; and I continue to be so here at home.

maybe this is just me, i however cannot imagine coriander going in.

I would assume it is cardamom. Cardamom is used in chai spice mixes. You can also buy it whole.
In nepal it was used in milk tea.

Cardamom is traditionally added to (I think) Turkish coffee. I've never heard of anyone adding coriander

I don't know what she uses, but I love both coriander and cardamom, and now because of this post I'm going to have to try both to assuage my curiosity😂

Coriander is the seed that if grown is usually called cilantro in Canada. I'm one of those who think cilantro tastes like soap, so I always substitute parsley. I'm actually OK with the seed though, but would use it in pickles or savory dishes.

Cardamom is a spice I use in Peperkakor cookies, so I suspect that's the one you're looking for - but I do not drink coffee - don't even like the smell of it - total tea granny here and I do have teas that cardamom would be great in.

Like Jordan, I'm going to have to try both. Cardamom in coffee is classic (tea too, think of chai) but I could see coriander seed as well- I make beer as well as tea with dry coriander seed. People put much stranger things than coriander in their coffee!!

Cardamom! Although now I kind of want to try coriander.

Ok, I did the coriander coffee this morning. Er. Ma. Gerd. It's like it was meant to be. Now I'm wondering about nutmeg.

Huh.  I'd always heard that you put cinnamon powder in your coffee to cut the bitterness.  And it works!

I used to have some Turkish coffee pre-mixed with cardamom, which was pleasant.  I've never tried coriander, though it's worth a shot.

I put ground cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves in my morning coffer grind..... along with a squirt each of turmeric/black pepper and chaga tinctures once brewed. Works for me.
