I approach plant breeding as a form of
art, and not as a science. So I take artistic license and pleasure in the varieties that I develop.
This squash was a plain old boring green when I started with it. I'm expecting to add pink into the mix next growing season.
I would feel so bored if my corn was only white or yellow.
Beans have to have visual appeal about them, and a pretty background...
Butternut quash would look horrid if they were all the same shape.
My tomatoes really, really, need to have huge showy flowers by the time I am done with them.
Yup. I definitely have to have lots of different colors, shapes, and sizes in just about everything that I grow. The artist in me requires that of my plant breeding projects.
