This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Electricity.

In this Badge Bit, you will trench power to an outbuilding.  Extension cords on the yard tend to attract lawnmower blades.  Let's trench a dedicated power supply!

Here's a video of the This Old House guy doing it:

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
  - trench power more than 20' to a new location
  - follow local requirements for depth and need for conduit

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
  - the location where the trench will go
  - the trench dug with wires/conduit in the trench
  - the trench filled in
  - explain how you met the code requirements for your area

Here I trench power to a new location - from the power at the house to bring power to the hay barn.

There were three inspections, one with the conduit in ditch before backfilling, and then two later for the rough wiring and final.

Minimum conduit size was 2", but I used 3" Sch 40 20ft conduit pipes with belled ends and a 3" Sch 40 ez bend riser.  Minimum burial depth was 18" but I buried it about 36" because I frequently dig and don't want to get close to it.  I had at least 12" of separation with the extra conduits I put in the ditch for future use.  The maximum bends allowed in the conduit was three 90-degree bends (270 degrees total) of which no individual bend is less than a 24-inch radius.  I used two 36" radius 90s (one being the ez bend riser) and was able to get the proper alignment at the barn by doing a gradual bend in the ditch and with the straight sections of conduit.

I'm running power out to the site where my yurt is going to be erected.  I'm running 3x 6awg direct burial wire for 230v 60a.  In my neck of the woods direct burial needs to be 24" deep. The trench is 150' long.
