My soil is clay.  That being said, I carved out a square 2'x2'x1' for this BB.  I added water to the hole and marked with a stick.  The ground was a bit saturated so I believe that affected my results.  It took 15 hours to drain.  I let the hole dry out for the rest of the day and tamped it down this morning and added another 5 gallons.  Last pic is the measuring stick after an hour and a quarter.

Note: Sorry, the water in the pre-compacted hole has to drain away in under 60 minutes.  And you normally need to tamp the whole hole, not just the bottom.  Perhaps you know somewhere that is a bit sandier to try this again?

I get it.  I'll try again in my landscaping...much organic matter and a cutesy pond will look good there.  Thanks!

Here is my submission for the Earthworks - Sand - Seal a Tiny Pond BB.

Make a hole in the ground that is 2 feet in diameter and at least a foot deep.
  - Pour in 5 gallons of water and prove that the water is gone in less than 60 minutes
  - Compact the soil (probably with different kinds of digging bars, or a piece of rebar stabbed into the hole a hundred times)
  - Repeat the 5 gallon test with water remaining for at least an hour

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
Attachment 1- show the new hole
Attachment 2 - show how long it took to drain 5 gallons
Attachment 3 - show the compaction process
Attachment 4 - show the new 5 gallons going in
Attachment 5 - show a toothpick marking the water line once the water is in
Attachment 6 - show another toothpick marking the waterline five minutes later *** This requirement seems to have been added at some point so I'm not sure if it's actually required
Attachment 7 - show that the water level has not dropped more than a half-inch in an hour

The hole is at least 2 ft wide and is deeper than 1 ft. I used rebar, a tamper, my feet, and wild clay that I sourced from my property to seal the pond.

I look forward to seeing all the ways that this pond will create edge in my landscape and plan to make a larger pond.

I sealed a tiny pond. It took me two days.

- I dug a hole 21 inches deep and 28 inches wide
- I poured five gallons of water into the hole. It drained in 5 minutes. (Water in at 2:06, water drained at 2:11)
- I used a pry bar to compact the soil. I stomped and smoothed with my boots. This is the part that took an another session.
- the final, successful test is documented in photos. The five gallons goes in at 11:15. The water is just at the edge of my stick (substitute for toothpick). At 12:15, the water has dropped less than a half of an inch.

It was cool to see that this is possible. Next time I may enlist some hogs to do the compaction.

I have been using a plastic kiddie pool for my ducks. I want something better for them! I'm going to seal them a real pond!
I selected a site for the hole. I dug it out, pounded it with a kid's baseball bat, and tried to test my progress with a 5 gallon water test. Every time I tried, my ducks would be in the new pool within an hour, splashing out all my water for the test!! *sigh* it took a few attempts. Finally, I was able to measure it. I call this tiny pond sealed!

I'm frustrated with the request to add more pictures than the requirements outline. Not because I'm eschewing clarification, but because it's been so long since I turned this bb in. The original size of the pond I sealed with a baseball bat has increased, because my ducks use it every day. And neighborhood cats and my dog and frogs...) So the pic with a tape measure (not required) shows the pond is now wider than 2 feet. The pond also doesn't drain anymore. Water stays in overnight; I just top it off in the mornings. So I cannot show how deep the pond is. But the ducks fully float, so I guess it is still deeper than 1 foot.
I also edited the "after" test to be closer to an hour (62 minutes) because this time frame is specified in the requirements. But I interpreted this to mean that if the pond doesn't drain much in 3 hours, it drained even less in the first hour.

Note: would like to see measurements on pond size and water drop at one hour

Staff note (Paul Fookes) :

Thank you for the updated information.
Please read the requirements:
Make a hole in the ground that is 2 feet in diameter and at least a foot deep.
   - Pour in 5 gallons of water and prove that the water is gone in less than 60 minutes
   - Compact the soil (probably with different kinds of digging bars, or a piece of rebar stabbed into the hole a hundred times)
   - Repeat the 5 gallon test with water remaining for at least an hour

There is no proof of how deep the hole is.  Your BB submission remains an edge case.
I recommend that for any BB submission, the submitter compare their submission with successful submissions.

Paul Fookes. Clarification:

"following as pictures or video (<2 min):
  - Show the new hole
  - Show how long it took to drain 5 gallons
  - Show the compaction process
  - Show the new 5 gallons going in
  - Show a toothpick marking the water line once the water is in
  - Show that the water level has not dropped more than a half inch in an hour"

These required proofs do NOT specify to take a picture proving the size of the hole, which is why I did not include them in the original post.

I recommend that those certifying bbs do not expect more than the bb requires.

Something must be done about this. Let's start by reading this tiny ad:
