This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Homesteading. (Note that this BB is part of a four-part choose your own adventure called Little List. You must complete four Badge Bits in the Little List.)

In this Badge Bit, you will check a game camera.

From the video description:
"How to setup the trail cam. Once you see this, it is fairly easy.
This model can record either stills, or video onto a 32GB SD card."

From the video description:
"The crew from Whitetail Properties share tips on using trail cameras."

Best Time to Check Trail Cams

From the video description:
"Once you have checked off the basics of trail cam setup, when you actually access to check your trail cams can make or break your season. Here is an easy way to check your trail cams, without spooking deer."

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
- check a game cam (check pics; fresh memory card and batteries)

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, you must provide:
   - a picture of the innards of the game cam next to fresh batteries and a fresh memory card
   - a picture of the game cam put back in place
   - at least six pictures from the game cam

Does this BB apply for a cam that:
- Plugs in to recharge?
- Uses cloud storage and no memory card?
- Doesn't see very much non-bipedal-humanoid wildlife?

Cloud storage - fine
Looking for people - fine
Plugs in to recharge - only if you have two cameras you swap out or use some other system to avoid periods of no recording.

Super neat experience getting to go through the card and see all the changing seasons and critters passing by a single location on this earth.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 wrote:There is a time for everything,

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,     a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,

Working on my tracking skills.
I suspected this spot to be on of the main trails.

Conclusion after having seen the pictures: Either I am getting better at tracking, or the animals passed the cam just for me :-D
I haven't even uploaded all there was: wild boar, wild boar piglets, a roe deer doe...

Here is my submission for the Homesteading - Sand for Straw points - Little List Check a Game Cam BB.

During BB20 2023, I had the privilege of checking four game cams located at Wheaton Labs.  This game cam is near Ant Village.  I replaced and formatted the new SD card and replaced the batteries.  After returning to the library, I downloaded the full SD cards and looked at the photos - what fun to see who visited.

I completed the minimum requirements of this BB:
- check a game cam (check pics; fresh memory card and batteries)

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
   - a picture of the innards of the game cam next to fresh batteries and a fresh memory card
   - a picture of the game cam put back in place
   - at least six pictures from the game cam

This camera is at the side of the road and it was not removed from the tree so as not to change the area captured.  I didn't want to risk dropping the batteries and sd card down the hillside so I have two photos.

Hubs and I use a 12V 10ah LIFEPO 4 as the Main Battery and Alkaline for Back Up in the Camera.

I noticed that the Battery Level for the Camera had dropped to 90%. That told me the Main Battery was dead and was now running on the Alkaline.
So we switched out the Lithium Battery.

Trimmed up a stick that had partially broken in a snow storm that was in the view of the camera shot so that we don't have a trillion windy pictures.
