Oh my if they are getting lighter then my strength is going faster than I thought lol. I purchased one of those rounds once thought it was a great deal. Live and learn lolRa Kenworth wrote:D Cali I can still toss regular hay bales but I think they're getting lighter for the same price
I can't toss round ones though!

So any Permies in New England game for a no - small talk, activity-based, no-pressure group meet up? I am informed that there are no map features on this site but we could develop our own organically. PM me to get it going. Tell me your one? two? hour radius. If you're not in my radius, maybe I can link you to someone elses. No car? Perhaps a train or carpool. Cheers.

Lol I hope your bales aren't getting lighter! It was meant as a joke but true:
My farmer quit oat bales after they quit pigs when a pig hit $27 at the slaughterhouse. They don't give you a price until they put one through and fortunately he kept his others in the trailer and waited. He thought they means 127 which would have been low, and I'm talking cdn now, so no more piggies and no more good bales for $5 cdn.
I have found a new supplier nearby, ligjter bales, but seems $5 cdn is a darn good price!
... which is an accomplishment because most of the land is zoned forest and no agriculture allowed.
Meat pigeons aren't classified or regulated, which is what I have I large quantity! They prefer hay or straw but the boys will scavenge leaves, twigs, and steal fliers from each other!
I did without for 2 years I can tell ya: I got myself a round bale of road hay delivered and offered the going price for a good round bale but got it delivered for free mind you! I was smart enough to get it dropped where I was
starting a new compost windrow lol
We had a discussion earlier this winter on hay bale prices and I couldn't resist posting a pic demonstrating that in Iqaluit a 40 lb box of hay costs $100 cdn (so I think I won the prize for finding the most expensive hay lol) I am overwintering here in Iqaluit and there really are people with indoor rabbits and chickens here !
I hope I brightened up your day with my little story

I've been on the planet for 59 years this time. I'm a single woman in Vermont! This state has more women than men and being single at this age here is a bit challenging I will say.
Part of my challenge, I will admit, is that I am content living on my own here. I've been single so long it just seems normal to me.
When I tell people my age, they are usually shocked and think I am much younger. I have no kids (except two cats). I bought an old 1890 brick house on a half acre a few years ago and have been renovating and planting here.
I love this property and house but am not attached to staying here. I had a vision of being off grid and I am certainly not off grid although I do live on the edge of town in a sort of green belt, so I have lots of space around me.
I thought, how cool there is a creek on the side of the property, but it wasn't so cool when it flooded last July! Jokes on me, buying a house in the flood plain but it's actually not that bad if one is ready for it, the basement can get a little wet but the rest of the house is wonderful.
Anyway! It's pretty crazy up here because every time I see a cool looking dude who looks a bit worn in a nice way, I think, oh he looks interesting but then here comes his wife and a bunch of kids.
It's like clockwork. Now when I see an interesting dude, I start looking around for his wife or partner.
I'm ok alone but it would be so fun to find someone handy who is into the same things I am and has a good sense of humor. I'm living a clean and sober life and am physically in great shape. I paint murals for a living.
I wont post a photo here in keeping with the norm because I don't see any of you other old farts putting up photos. I will though! I don't mind.
peace, Lopi

I plan on being here for a while but will eventually relocate out west. I worked at several permaculture farms when I lived in Oregon and Colorado many years ago. I think teaming up with someone seems like a good option as I get older and start slowing down a little. Still in good shape and love running and hiking in the woods with my dogs. Good luck everyone!
Jeff Marchand wrote:Hi! Geat thread. The problem as I see things is there are lots of great people here from all over the world. The thing is while I am single with no one in my life I am in love. With my land. I suspect most people on in this thread are the same. It's a big ask to expect me to sell the land I have poured my blood sweat and tears into for 16 years and move to be with someone I met on permits singles. How can I expect the same from anyone else? Sure would be great to share my piece of paradise with someone. To split the chores and companionship and someone to share the trials and tribulations with would be wonderful.
For what's it's worth I'm a 53 year old swm in Eastern Ontario who raised grass fed beef on 50 acres.
Hello Jeff...wow that's awesome. How's life these days...stl single, raising cattles? I'm interested to know more..if you care to, I'd love to hear back. Thank you
Have a great day everyone.
