Crazy idea: with all this washing, I need to make more hand cream.  I'm also having trouble not touching my face.  Is there a way to combine the two problems into one solution?

When I was a kid, I bit my nails so my parents put a nasty-tasting polish on my nails and it quickly cured me of the habit.  I was thinking of putting chili oil in my hand cream to cure the face touching problem, but this would probably put me in the hospital which is somewhere I don't want to be.  But maybe there is something else I could add that would help train my hands to stay away from my face?

Otherwise, I was thinking of coating my fingers with tiger balm.

What about a really strong smelling essential oil in a hand lotion? Maybe you'll get a whiff and remember not to touch your face? Could even pick a couple with anti-viral properties or immune boosting properties?

Seems like anything strong smelling that *won't* hospitalize you would be a good idea.. garlic? I got some burning plastic(electrical fire) on my hand the other day and it smelled pretty bad for a whole day even with a LOT of scouring and washing... but hopefully a less toxic and dramatic solution is available!

the best idea i have seen so far is to wash, put on cream, and then touch a raw onion. Enough to remind you pretty easily, washes off, and after a day or two of that you should get the point. Chili or mint oil (or tiger balm) could burn you way too much.

I am the only one around here who never touches his/her face. I gained this super power by growing super-uber-extremely hot peppers (such as carolina reaper ). Nope, not gonna happen. (best antidote is milk- or oils)
After that problem resolved, you can use any hand cream you like :)

Things that you could use that might help, that I can think of - lanolin - incredibly good for your skin, doesn't smell so good.
Garlic, aesophoteda (sp?), valerian root... I'll come back and post more, as I think of it...(probably in the middle of the night, since that's when my mind races...)

A few drops of eucalyptus or tea tree oil in it would act as a reminder, and have some antibacterial qualities.

I think it would be better for something that gives mild pain (but doesn't have a risk of blinding me) rather than something that smells 'bad'.  So far all the smell ideas are things I love the smell of -garlic, onions, chilli, eucalyptus, lanolin - and would encourage me putting my hands near my face.

Then go for something like jalapenos they sting but they won't blind you. At home I don't bother with any of the wash hands/ don't touch face things, but on the rare occasions we go out somewhere other than our own land I put on gloves for the shop and take them off before getting into the car. 3 weeks ago I drove the massive distance of 7 miles back from the physio and caught myself touching my face 3 times even though I was attempting to avoid it.

Is this for use where you have to be presentable or can it look like anything? The veils are probably a good idea if it's for home use.

Dig out your winter mittens and gloves - the visual and textural oddity should interrupt the habit. Adding a wrist elastic you "snap" on your wrist each time you touch face is also good reinforcement.
