Breaking news: Russian Government creates a program for obtaining free land in the Russian Federation, similar to the "Far East Hectare": https://ecominded.net/land-giveaway-russia
It will allow one to register ownership of land plots remotely, without unnecessary bureaucratic procedures.
All you got to do to stake a claim is find open public land, and then you got to mark it (online) and register with the government.
Just like wild American west in the old days... although they could not go through the whole procedure online :)
Please read and share the article with friends: https://ecominded.net/land-giveaway-russia

Wow, how exciting for the citizens of Russia! I do hope, however, that plenty of land will be kept aside for national parks, regional parks, etc., and allow wildlife a place to be what it is.

The changing climate has made Siberia a dramatically different place. Much more land is arable, but the melting permafrost is releasing massive amounts of methane into the atmosphere. The fires are terrible this year. I hope the Russian government is not encouraging people to move to Siberia and cut forests to create industrial farmland.

The land giveaway program relates only to open public lands, not the forests and national reserves, of course. There is a lot of abandoned land in Russia waiting for people to come and develop it.

I think people would struggle to create industrial farmland on 1 hectare but if 10 people went and got 10 hectares next to eachother they could make a great place to live.

One hectare is given to one person, which means that a family of 5 can get 5 hectares of land for free. And of course different families can join together and get their land in one place.

I live in Russia, and I want to do this when we become citizens. This is about settling the land with homesteads, not industrial farming.

So you must become a citizen before claiming the land online?   ...guess I should read the article!

My dear friends, Following up on the news about Russia, we disclose some essential tips for acquiring land in Russia: https://ecominded.net/buy-land-russia This article will be especially interesting for sustainable living enthusiasts inspired by Anastasia's vision from the Ringing Cedars of Russia book series, who want to relocate to Russia and create their Kin's domain (family homestead) in one of the Russian ecovillages: https://ecominded.net/russian-family-homesteads

Aurora, I was curious and tried to find something, but all I found was broken links to official sites! Yuri may be able to help, so I hope he sees your comment.
I believe the free hectare of homesteading land is only available for Russian citizens or those of Russian ancestry.

Far East hectare and Arctic hectare programs are still working in Russia. However they are available for Russian citizens only.

Russian land giveaway program, which some suggest was inspired by Anastasia (Ringing Cedars of Russia), has now become a formidable success !!! https://www.rt.com/business/582889-free-land-russian-far-east/ Please read more articles on the topic here: https://ecominded.net/move-to-russia

Yuri, you made the comparison here with the “Wild West“ in the US- are there indigenous groups in this area that are still distinct from the Russian government?

Not everything as it seems here...will not say more.

But to answer your question: no. There are other problems..

As Alice Fast replied you: the short answer is: no. All indigenous groups on the territory of Russia got assimilated into Russian culture and at the same time they can freely keep their national traditions. There is no difference now between original Russians and other nationals - they all are treated equally.

This is such a fascinating topic (the indigenous people in Siberia). I remember studying about the Yakuts and shamanism there. There are also buddhist religions which coexist with shamanism. Really a complex and diverse culture but so difficult to study nowadays...
