"Summer Solstice" — Carrie Richards

This was when the whole world measured time

This is when the light would turn around

This is where the past would come undone

and the spinning earth will mark a new beginning

Let's go back in time, to when it all began

To the breaking of new dawns

Where moments bright with fire, would light the chanting song

Where pagans worshipped sun, and danced among the trees

Wore strange masks of covered straw, and blessed cold ash with awe

Wreaths hung upon the door against all spirit's, dire

and when the winter's grasp let go, the sun reversed the pyre

This was when the whole world measured time

Happy Not Quite Sunny Solstice everyone!
For the start of the summer season in Montana, we have a balmy 39F with a high of 60F
Rain is expected by noon.
Maybe some sun Thursday.

Pearl,   Anytime we get that much sun up here just south of the Canadian border, I put the 'sun' attachment on the snowblower and blow all of that sun out of the driveway.

.....at least that's what I tell the mail carrier, who gives me the oddest look!

;-)

After a cloudy week, it's supposed to be sunny today - I hope so!
However, regardless of the clouds, it will still be the longest day of the year (although the experts will tell you that it will be the shortest night), so I will try to enjoy every moment of it!

Bumpity, bump, bump - it's that time of year again!

People further east than me, probably consider tomorrow the longest day, however being at the westest of the continent, the experts say, "Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 7:42 p.m Pacific time" is the time when the magic happens.

Dinner with friends to celebrate the moment!

I'm going with tomorrow. Either way it won't get dark tonight!

Today's weather was gorgeous and tomorrow looks like being nice too (and I get the afternoon off!   ). We've also finally made it above 60 Fahrenheit.

Dictionary.com got in on the fun. Your word for the day:

Solstitial describes anything occurring around the time of a solstice. The word beams down from Latin solstitium, literally "sun standing still," because some ancient astronomers thought a solstice was the day where the sun appeared to stand still at its highest or lowest point in the sky.

That's a new word for me... and we're getting our first rainy day in weeks!

Normally the 2-3 weeks after solstice are the coldest part of the year here, but today it was sunny and 16 degrees. Tomorrow will be even warmer (19) but there's rain approaching. I didn't even bother to light the fire this evening.
