I want to purchase two freaky cheap tix to this year's PTJ and am prepared
to do so today. Just not certain about one set of logistical problems. My
partner and I have three dogs and would be camping at PTJ somewhere on Base
Camp or Wheaton Labs.

We are proposing that we contribute to solving the dog problem, before PTJ
commences. We've read the threads on designing and building a "yard"
enclosure with runs for multiple dogs. We are volunteering to do that
project, in June, if that works for you all.

Our dogs are cute, and easy to manage, and are fairly well-behaved. They've
lived with us on three farms over the two years we've had them, so they've
learned farm etiquette. We have two 15# miniature poodles and a 35# mutt.
All that said, we also believe that dogs should not be free to roam
willy-nilly anywhere, for their health, for environmental welfare, and for
our peace-of-mind.

So the idea is that you would keep your dogs in this space during the days?

Exactly. It seemed to us as though you have been wanting to accommodate folks with dogs, but that no one else had offered to build the necessary infrastructure. We are volunteering to do so. Creating accommodations for dogs
would enable us to participate in PTJ.

That could be made into a permaculture technology project: how to build a low tech dog enclosure/area.

How cool!

So you wanna come here, maybe in the next few weeks, build this, and then come back during the PTJ and keep your dogs in this.

As a sepper?  As boots in the bootcamp?

We are committed for April and May (planting a summer garden for our winter farm hosts). We expect to be available in June for other projects, so we are proposing to arrive in Montana in June.

For building the dog enclosure, we would Sepp. My partner Jessie is very interested in working as a Boot, after he's seen how Bootcamp is organized.

Just curious, what kind of fence do you propose to build?

We need more info about what Paul and crew want onsite. We propose to match requirements set by the Humane Society for comfort and welfare of the animals

We are thinking it would be a junkpole fence.  Maybe 24x24.  Maybe six feet tall.  And there might be some sort of skiddable shelter inside.

Here is a fun thread about the dog run idea:

https://permies.com/t/57228/dog-village-wheaton-labs

It sounds like there are a few different people wanting to bring dogs.

What kinds of food do you feed your dogs?  We try to keep it organic so we don't put persistent herbicides on the landscape.

Saana says the Dog star is available before and during the permaculture technology jamboree.  That would a great place for you guys to stay.

Gotcha, Paul, on size and materials. Ditto the need to build a moveable shelter structure.

Our dogs eat a mix of two kibbles, each with a short list of ingredients, because two of them have bad food allergies. (They were retired from breeding in a backyard puppy mill a couple of years ago. There they were fed standard, relatively cheap, GMO-laden kibble.) We also cook a meat and veg stew for them about once a week. This usually lasts for the majority of their dinners. We have been living and working on organic farms the past four years, so most of our foods, for livestock, humans and pets, has been organically grown or raised.

The AmayZheng Dog Star cabin looks COOL! I think we would love to stay there.

I haven't seen it listed as available for rent. How much is it? How would we reserve it?

The thread on dog run/dog village, dating from 2016, is what sparked our proposal in the first place. It seemed to very much be an unmet need, which we have the skills to fulfill, with at least a prototype build.

I'm grateful to all of you who have considered our proposal seriously and responded so quickly with ideas and clarifying questions.

Thank you for the Dog Star rental link, Samantha. Yes, we want to arrive a couple of weeks ahead of Permaculture Tech Jam, to get a head start on the dog run.

And thank you for the personal invitation to last Saturday's live call with Paul. We were previously committed to a local event, so not available.

Holly

The link for discounted tickets has disappeared. I understood from a post yesterday that these still are available at the $450 per person rate through noon mountain time today. Please send me a payment link or other access, so I can purchase two tickets at this rate.

Thank you for all you do building community,

Holly

Thanks for your quick response, Tina. I bought two PTJ Ticket Blitz dealios. Also sent $450 as reservation for Dog Star cabin from June 15 to July 15. I know the rate is higher now. Just need someone to send me the proper link.

I see! I believe Saana has sent out emails for the rentals. I would respond asap.

One day a chicken crossed a road and nobody questioned the motives. Thank you tiny ad.
