Permaculture Photo Challenge - October-November 2019

It has occurred to me as I post these photos that many of them could be labeled "decay." Apples and decay, nettles and decay ... But I will find one for just decay.

My finished compost from last year. Actually, my first ever, actual, successful, composting.

I love seeing everyone's own take on each subject!

Friendly weeds-milkweed pod

Edible cleaning. I wouldn't eat it (the taste isn't great), but it is in the category 'edible' because it doesn't do any harm. My home-made laundry-soap (also good for cleaning the kitchen a.a.)

Who was the sick son of a gun that played with this to discover different uses?

Not sure how many I'll get done, and there will be one or two 'staged' ones with me in that I got other people to take but otherwise fit the bill nicely.

swallowtail butterfly, which means that they are breeding somewhere near here.  I know the caterpillars feed on rue so I've just been to collect seed from my rue plants so I can grow more at the new place. I wonder if this sort like pawpaws, because I have some pawpaw seedlings, too...

For those of you with long memories, this is indeed the infamous Fluffybutt!  She's a bit skinny and past her best these days, but just as grumpy as ever.

31. A spooky (exo)skeleton!  Boo!

Visited a shrine yesterday, saw this guy and got excited to that it would make a good "decay" subject.

Also saw matsutake mushrooms for sale for the big bucks at a "road station" (like a rest area, but nice). I knew they were rare, but I didn't know one could go for $150! They only grow under certain pine (matsu) trees in natural forest. Know foraging spots are closely guarded secrets. The older people in our neighborhood say that they used to get lots of matsutake from the woods behind our house, but the trees were all killed by a bug.

Apple. As in apple cider. Our apple orchard is still young but we've made cider twice this year and still have at least a third pressing in the weeks ahead. It's "mellowing" in tall canning jars on the counter now.

R Ranson, Please help me with some mild confusion. For the photo challenge, which already has several photos posted, you said that the photos should be taken on or after Oct 31, 2019. Is this right?

I meant the first of October.  Did I say Halloween?  I'll have to fix this.

The hope is that people will go out and take new photos rather than digging through their archive.

I love these.  Especially the decay.

I took this photo this morning.  I love how when I look at things a certain way real life becomes real abstract.

And yes, this is a photo of an ordinary thing, with just a little photo manipulation to bring out the texture.  Hmmm.  I don't seem to be able to preview anything but the link.  Oh well.



The ordinary thing?  The inside wall of a leaky (and therefore dry) water trough.

Um...  The ordinary thing is the inside wall of a leaky (and therefore dry) water trough.  It was supposed to represent "Decay" but I don't seem to be able to post an image.  I tried pasting, tried using the Img tag, but nope.

Lif, I had to look it up the first time, it's not so intuitive!
