OK Paul, I know you don't like asking for help.  I just would like to know what "projects" are in the most urgent need of more funds.

Is the Ring the Bel still top of your list?

You are a big guy(you should be proud of your weight loss). Maybe not as big as you once were, I am sure that many folks here on your site would be happy to step up to help.  You should not have to cover all the many expenses.

Please don't make me whip out my checkbook!  Cause you know I will!!!

Just tell us your plans, you just may find all the funding you need.

Peace

First thought:  judy, our truck that pulls the heavy loads, stopped functioning.  We had to tow judy into the turtle lot a few weeks ago.

judy getting towed

judy at work

top-left is boots in judy headed out for a task

Last year Judy spent more time in the shop than getting work done.  And the mechanic said she is done and to never bring her back.  We did have a fella (Jim) who was here last fall and he managed to get judy running again.

The day that judy died, stephen said it was time to get something to replace judy.  Something reliable.  I wanna get an electric truck, but they are mighty expensive.  95k right now.  Maybe 75k in a couple of years.  Maybe even less in five years.

We bought judy used, but we have probably spent 4x that on repairs, and the amount of off-line time has really slowed some projects.

So replacing Judy is the biggest purchase I am trying to figure out right now.

----

Next, yes!  The BEL is probably the most important thing.  It makes it so that boots will share pics of stuff, and get some jingle in their pocket.  I think it is one thing that makes the bootcamp appealing.

In a similar vein, I am exploring the idea of what I call "the ringer program".  I like the idea of bringing in a new ringer every two to four weeks.  Somebody with skills to get shit done.  Let's finish some of the big projects here and share these skills with the boots!  I like the idea of sweetening this pot a bit and getting the ringers to spend more time here and maybe bring in more ringers.  Get more done - which leads to more videos/movies/books - which leads to more world domination!  I wanna get allerton abbey done and get started on the annualized thermal inertia tests.  I wanna get our four willow feeders upgraded to 100% so we can explore movies and books about willow feeders.  Maybe we want to bring in a series of super-gardeners to get some excellent GAMCOD demonstrations.

----

I asked stephen what would we need that is less than a new truck.  He said snow tires and chains for roy would be good.

----

About a year ago we explored the idea of getting a big chunk of money and what is the best way to spend it to:

     - accomplish progress on world domination, and

     - the spend brings in money that would fuel even greater world domination

After weeks and weeks of discussion, the best I could come up with is:  the ringer program leading to future kickstarters which re-fuels the ringer program which leads to more kickstarters.

----

There is an idea that the more videos we put on youtube, the more traffic we get at permies.  So we need more videos.  I feel like we have enough cool stuff here for 500 new youtube videos.  But everybody is too busy to take the video ...  to stand in front of the camera and explain each bit.  I set up a patreon thing for this and thought that if I got real money in the patreon thing (per video) then i could pay a lot more for taking the video and for getting the video edited.  So this would lead to a dozen videos per month instead of one or two.  Instead, these efforts just have me going to a money loss.  Although when we did do a big video push, we did see overall traffic to permies break new records!  2.6 million people in may 2024!

---

So there ya go.  A glimpse into money stuff.  Of course, there is a lot more to say.  Things are complicated.  All day every day is about navigating all the comedies and using the phrase "make the best of it" about 30 times a day.

Thank you Paul.  First off, I'm not rich, I am what most would call well off.  If you have more money coming in each month than you spend, well you need something to do with the extra.

I can't buy an EV for you.  But I can buy some new shoes for Roy,  And I'll be happy to help out with the Boots program,

If someone on staff could edit this to add the payment link, you have my thanks.

Aw C'mon people, Roy needs new shoes before winter sets in!!

Paul I'll send another check your way, use as you see fit, boots for all!!

Peace

I guess I'm saying that I'm willing to become another voice for the empire.

If it can be done please add the donating - empire link to all my posts for now on.

I will send you a monthly check to help cover the costs of the many projects you have in mind.  Plus I'll still buy more PIE each month.  I'll have to check with my tax people, I think as of last year I can give as a gift up to $17,000.00 , without any tax liability.  So we should be OK at that point.

If you know of a way to issue a general challenge to others to help out, please let me know.

Check your mail around this time next week, you will find something to help out with Roy's new shoes!

Peace

Deane, you can set a signature that adds a line of text to the bottom of all yours posts by going to "Edit Profile" and then "Set your own Signature."

You could copy and paste this bit of code into there to put a link to the donation page:

Jeremy and Alex, my thanks to both of you, I know that you are trying to be of help.  I must inform you both that there are those (which may indeed be the others), walking among you, that have zero understanding of anything tech related.  Picture me rolling on the floor, laughing really loudly about my lack puter skills, never mind how hard it is for me to get up from the floor these days!

You both may as well have been typing Valyrian. My brain clutch kicks in and no gears will turn when it comes to skill with a keyboard. (still laughing, here).  Perhaps if we had a few hours together at a table, a ream of paper and a full box of crayons, you might be able to teach me such things.  When the nice guy in the big brown truck dropped off the Chromebook I was at a complete loss, - there was no BOOK in the box !!!  I felt lucky that it came on when I opened it!

Your time would be better spent with buying a feeder pig and teaching it to sing, you'll have better odds of accomplishing a difficult task!

Again many thanks guys, I'll send good energy out to both of you.

I think I'll just stick to writing checks to help out Paul and all his many projects.  I believe in his visions.  And as a bonus it would piss off my relatives if they knew I was giving away, what they feel should be their money! (laughing even harder now)

Peace

There is something to be said for "old tech".

But you don't get to take my spot as Permies Unofficial Computer Dinosaur - I earned the status some time ago and it will be some time before I plan on giving up the spot.

Yes Mam! Your title is safe with me.  But I do have an old dinosaur tee shirt, sporting a few holes, almost ready for the rag box.

Peace

See I can't even get the quote thingy done right!  I'm nearly hopeless. (still laughing)

And you will notice that I very politely didn't say anything!

Type: Jay said, "...quote..." like they taught you in school, and people will know which words are yours and which words are mine and too bad for the fancy techie methods! Write nice posts and encourage people who are doing their best to make the world a better place to keep doing it, and you will be part of the solution!
