I should have mentioned that Joseph Lofthouse is a major part of this...the reason it exists!
I couldn't find a thread that I remembered reading here.

I grew several things last year from these seeds with great germination and diversity.

Sounds great, I'm glad to see Joseph is involved with this, his landrace philosophy is part of my seed saving strategy now, at least for some veggies! (Not for tomatoes, though...)

The Landrace Seed Share at Going To Seed feels like the culmination of my life's work.

I feel grateful to permies.com for being the first group to really understand and adopt my suggestions and practices.

Me too! Last year, I grew some tomatoes, squash, and peppers from them. This year, I will try some of the grains.

I think this is a fantastic program, & I have high hopes of sending in a large amount of seed from my own grexes in the coming years.

In my experience, when starting a brand new grex, it can be hard to accumulate enough diverse seed from some crops the first few years.  There can sometimes be a steep learning curve if trying to grow something you have no real experience with, or allowing the crop to struggle to let nature find the strong ones.  This can result in little or no harvest, let alone enough mature seeds to save and share.

For example, I missed fava beans entirely last year because I simply didn't know enough about them or when to plant them.  On the other hand, I planted hundreds of common & pole beans which I've had a lot of experience with, but they were annihilated by birds and rabbits.  In the end, I had one pod mature enough to maybe have viable seeds before the frost took the few survivors out.  My grand plans for jars of beautiful beans were put off for another year.  Ironically, a neighboring plot had rows & rows of bush beans planted mid-summer & they produced loads.  Maybe their bean sprouts just weren't as tasty as mine, lol.

Really great to see enthusiastic posts on this whole goingtoseed.org approach and being able to see pics and words of the farmers along with all the content Joseph has been, and continues to put out.

Feels warm and inviting in a unique digital community way :) smart and simple, too. Glad I got an order in before sold out!

my seeds arrived!

Great packaging and a generous amount of seeds!
I will try harder this year to label and situate my plantings where saving seed to return is more possible.

Everything germinated last year although some disappeared due to bugs and others the drought.

Thank you Joseph for all of your focus and hard work pushing this forward

I was late, my order went in yesterday.  They already have many sold out.  Last year was terrible very little germination but, I did get 1 water melon from the 30 or so seeds. I'm hoping those seeds will do much better the second year.  6 or so plants 1 fruit.  It tasted great so i have high hopes. Tom

I know how you feel! I was able to donate seed this fall which was great. I've had great success in germination, and ⅔ die off before going to seed, great success! I added to my flour corn grex and it looked like a good contribution to the gene pool by the look of what did well

So many varieties already sold out!  Will mark my calendar next year to be an early bird.  Thank you all for posting about this resource!

I've purchased excellent seed in the past from Giving ground seed who carries and grows out some of the Lofthouse landraces -- if it's sold out above, maybe Giving ground still has the one you're after?  Of course it's not free this way, but maybe better to support a seed farmer and save yourself a year's wait!

Good news!

The Canadian Landrace Seed Share went live this morning.

2025 Canadian Collection

This is the first year we have a collection of seeds just for Canada, shipping from Canada. Seeds in these packets are contributed by Canadian growers, supplemented with seeds from our US program. Crops are limited this year, but we hope to grow -- and to do that, we're counting on you to return seeds next year.

Grow these seeds without pampering them, and save seeds from the tastiest, earliest, and healthiest plants. Send some of those seeds back to the program, in order to help other growers access diverse, resilient seed, and earn early access to the next year's collection.

Packets contain a generous amount of seed for a small to medium sized garden, with moderate germination and high genetic diversity. Not all seeds will thrive in your environment -- that is natural selection at work!

Limit of 10 seed packets, one per type, per order

Please note that we can only ship these seeds to Canada. If you're not seeing any products, you're probably not in Canada!

The shopping cart will only show products to people browsing the site from inside Canada.

🌿The 2025 Landrace Seed Share Ends Soon!

The Landrace Seed Share wraps up for the year in just a week or two—offering you a last chance to get seeds you can't find anywhere else. After a recent inventory, we found a few rare varieties—previously marked as out of stock—now back and available again.

These seeds don’t fall into the “ordinary” category. Gardeners like you—people who value resilience, biodiversity, and flavor—grew and improved them over time. Then, a dedicated team of seed stewards selected the best of those seeds, prepared them carefully, and lovingly packed them for sharing. Huge thanks go out to everyone who helped make this happen—especially Anna Mieritz and Lowell McCampbell, who put in extraordinary effort with organizing and shipping

đŸŒ± Why These Seeds Matter:
These seeds hold tremendous genetic diversity—a powerful tool for starting your own Adaptation Agriculture journey. Grow them, save seeds from the top performers in your garden, and in just a few seasons, you’ll have your own locally adapted, climate-smart varieties.

These seeds come from generous gardeners across the country, and from the Going To Seed Farmer Support program, with funding provided by the Clif Family Foundation. We feel deeply grateful for their contributions—and for your participation in this effort.

🌿 Looking to grow something extraordinary this year?
You now hold the opportunity to claim a packet full of genetic potential. Act quickly—the window closes soon, and the seed share won’t return until next year.

👉 Browse the 2025 Seed Collection

Let’s grow something resilient, together.

p.s.
We intend to donate any left over seeds to schools, seed libraries, prisons, etc. If you could use large quantities please reach out to us.

I spent a month in California, with a team of almost 30 volunteers, packaging 10,000 packets of seeds. We offer over 60 varieties this year, sent in by more than 100 gardeners. Looking forward to sharing the link with you on Sunday.

Here's the official announcement from the seed share coordinator:
Check Going To Seed on February 1st.

_____

It's almost here! The 2026 US Seed Collection will be available on Sunday February 1st at 9AM Eastern / 6AM Pacific. With 60 different mixes, and seeds contributed by over 100 growers, these packets are bursting with diversity. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Extra special thanks to seed stewards Angel, François, Debbie, Emily, Holly, Jessic, Joseph L, Joseph Z, Julia, Kim, Lowell, Malcolm, Spencer, William, and Philip.

This year we've got some new crops like peanuts, artichokes, and sesame, as well as most of the crops we had last year. We had a higher percentage of returned seeds this year, so you should see more mixed-up genetics and greater resilience.

Grow them, allow them to cross-pollinate, and save seeds from the tastiest, earliest, and healthiest plants. Send some of those seeds back to the program -- you'll help other growers access diverse, resilient seed, and earn early access to the next year's collection.

Packets contain a generous amount of seed for a small to medium sized garden, with moderate germination and high genetic diversity. Not all seeds will thrive in your environment -- that is natural selection at work!

Our seeds are only available in the US and Canada. If you're in Canada, you can order from the US collection, but shipping is fairly expensive. We'll also have a Canada-only catalog of seeds, grown and shipped on your side of the border, available February 15th.

Thank you all for helping us build more resilient food systems through diversity, community, and adaptation.

It gets harder each year to figure out which ten packets I want.

I also felt weird because this is the first time that I didn't send seeds into the program. Next year!

Here's the live link.
https://goingtoseed.org/collections/2026-us-seed-collection

The November deadline exists because so much goes on behind the scenes to get these seeds ready for shipment—communication with stewards and contributors regarding the composition of the mixes, cleaning, freezing seeds, mixing, paperwork, photography, database construction, packaging, built in delays for shipping, etc. I spent a month in California, with a team from Going To Seed getting ready for this swap. About 30 volunteers helped put seeds in envelopes.

We currently accept seeds all year long, but only included seeds in this year's offering that arrived before we had to start the decision making process.

The choice of whether or not to accept older seed rests with the individual stewards, and it varies based on species.

Generally, we want fresh seed because it germinates better, and grows stronger. At the same time, we recognize that a November deadline limits the amount of seed that people can send in, cause they still sit in a field or unprocessed on a shelf—for example, corn and squash. Stewards likely will accept seed grown in 2025 for the 2027 distribution. Also some of the seed that we received after the submission deadline for 2026 may end up in the 2027 blends.

We received seed from 20-40 years ago from a famous plant explorer. Germination testing indicated low germination rates (0–30%). I distribute that seed separately.

and this year our son was ordering them and by the time he checked out they were all gone!
I plan to share peanut seeds that I have with both our sons who's gardens usually grow more abundantly than ours....and both are totally organic and pushing beyond😊
