Hi zoeland!
We’re putting seeds in at the north end of the garden beds.. strawberry from base camp volunteers, peach from Aizen a former boot, juniper (on behalf of Magdalene), first fruit plum from base camp north paddock..
While seeding I noticed baby kale sprouts that must have sprouted recently.. they’re 1-2 inches tiny but they’re still building soil in tiny ways..

Yesterday was the warmest day of the week.. 39 degrees.. so let’s see what zoeland looks like..
Ever wonder what a Zoe sized hugel might look like? ..I do.. it’s about two feet tall and four feet long..
it fondly reminds me of my childhood when I used to believe that wet burritos from “the green burrito” were my ultimate barely reachable dream food.. I was too young to drive at the time, and also my folks encouraged us to not eat out too frequently, and it was usually hard on my newbie wallet.. so the chances to achieve this pilgrimage were few and far between.. but I digest.. I guess, in a way, a hugel and a burrito are both made of food.. this in honor of abundance, parents, and grace, which sometimes come in delicious, modest, wrapped packages.. May abundance overflow for Zoe everywhere she goes :)
Ps.. Wild strawberry seeds from base camp are also in this hugel..
Pps.. lemon balm was a gift from Ash, over a year ago.. it produced fifty or more seed heads on a hugel in the back paddock!

Just a day before, this whole area was covered in the inches of snow.. the slow melt has rendered the earth’s surface into a tender crust..

Step five: bury the seeds a little and then the fun part—walk on top of the hugel!

Step six: cover whole thing with mulch, like sauce on a giant wet burrito.. and remember to enjoy the view of the meadow

I carved a small path around the garden/bench area to gather the mulch for hugel 1.. don’t you want a wet burrito now?.. I do..
