i'm tinkering with several computers and can't get any working

one is a piece of junk....  it's now classified as scrap metal

number 2  has been zapped by 240 dc voltage
when an oak tree fell on our power lines

third  is a dell from hell that wont recognize my hard drives

i'm loosing my mind quick...      this Pc is sacred as it pays the bills
(no tinkering allowed)

I had a similar problem with a Dell Laptop. It crashed then wouldn't see the drives. I thrashed around for a long time until I found out that a setting has flipped in the bios. the drive type had switched. I think I had to select SATA, or maybe it was vice-versa.  Boot up your system, hit F2 to get into setup and check your drive type or controller settings and pick 'the other one'  Maybe it'll work for you like it did for me. once  I changed the type back, it booted right up like nothing had ever happened.

cheers,
AZGuy

I agree.

I think it is kinda cosmetic and could be mended later.

I like the idea that it changes to "permies >> forums" and then the section, then the forum.

Andrew is now mashing the stuff to make it so that if somebody attempts to go to an old thread, they will end up looking at the same thread at a different address.

I'm trying to find all the stuff that were little hacks by me to take somebody from permies.com/sepp and move them to the correct thread.

I think the rest of the forum stuff is ready to go.

Once we get moved, we will need to do a scramble of tests for the wiki and static pages to make sure they are working okay.

I tried creating a new account - still waiting for activation email.
Perhaps the test is over?

Pam - where it says 'dot' replace it with a dot/ful stop, and get rid of the spaces.

Paul doesn't want google to find it yet so didn't put the real link in.

Is there where I'm supose to go to help with the tinkering so the Geoff Lawton pt 2 podcast can get online before I spontaneously com-bust with anticipation?

I read the entire thread but I don't get whether the original subject needs my input anymore, should I just subscribe to this thread and wait for new feedback request?

The test is still going.

Can you get in now?  Maybe there was a reboot or something when you tried earlier?

When we send an error message email and then go back to try whatever again and the problem seems to have been fixed, do you want us to email again and say so? My problems seem to have been fixed now but I didn't want to bombard you with emails. OTOH I thought you might like to know the problem had gone away.

Working ok for lo-tech me. Thanks!

(Now, to inquire about two of my favorites - 'search' function? and 'location/zone/climate' listing under poster name, or in poster info... maybe age field, also, if poster wants to provide? OK, okay, I have plenty of patience... and gratitude

Mentioning it here in the tinkering forum is the best place.
