Merle Travis was a local here . The thumbpicking style is this counties claim to fame . Next county over - Ohio county - gets to claim bluegrass as theirs . So , the local civic music hall is the " Merle Travis Music Center . A friend of mine says that Merle came to her house every Sunday to eat chicken and dumplings . This is her brother Steve Rector playing Merle Travis style :

....then "east broadway rundown" Sonny Rollins....vinyl on Impulse, that label put out a lot of great stuff. I've probably posted this before...I listen to a lot of that era of jazz...when it was stretching...

I know how!

I haven't been exposed to much jazz - and haven't liked most of what I have heard. I may just have an immature pallet. This is kinda groovy funky though - I'm still making my mind up about it - but the volume is up (windows closed for the moment)

D'oh! Judith I see you added the link at the same time as I.

I"m still grooving - and I figured out what this sort of reminded me of. One of my friends favorites (and a pretty good jazz tune to my ear)

Don Ellis - Turkish Bath

Stay Grooving! It's sunny and I need to get outside!

thanks for finding it...whatever I did didn't work, I found a concert video of Ornette...really tiny and 'tinny' on this computer, though. Might want to 'cleanse your pallet' before giving sonny rollins a go...Once I start digging through our records I don't stop for awhile...I won't post them all.

thanks for something new, I"ll try it with some headphones...I have to figure out how to run stuff online through our speakers...must be a way.
