Hi there permies, my name is Justin and I am bonkers about permaculture. Ant village has, after years of research, travel, conversation, and work, pinged on my radar. Upon investigation, the podcasts, articles, and various threads of villagers, visitors, etc. (thank you so much for these artifacts!), have painted a rare and beautiful work of art that I humbly ask to be a part of. I've also listened to and read about some of ant village's dramas and conflicts as well and understand that things aren't prefect. C'est la vie.

To put things into perspective, this isn't a daydream anymore. I am absolutely serious about   designing a BAMF permaculture paradise (BAMFPP) integrated with the other BAMFPP's  of ant village, the rest of BAMFPP Wheaton Labs, and of course BAMFPP Earth! Ok, enough with the acronym.

Get to the point!

My hope for this thread is to focus a current design process of a one acre ant plot that I haven't walk around on. A design that will, among other things, involve many dispersal methods which will rain goodies all over the place. I need help and will return help as best I can. Ideas, innovations, data, pictures, videos, links to threads, etc. are what I seek, and working it out with many other permy brains could be fun and worthwhile. Before I fill more digital pages of details and questions though, I need to find out if a thing like this is something worth gabbing about. This is the prototype.

Lastly, I am looking at the reverse bio kickstarter (sweet!) for its potential in letting me give coin to hardworking boots on the ground that might "do a thing" that seems smart or gather data for the design.

Also, I just want to say that husp design elements are my real focus, although not exclusively.

Welcome Justin!  You're not nuts, you're just awesome  This is a perfect place to flesh out your plans and get feedback.  

From what I've read about the adventures on the lab, the ants spend a lot of time building a shelter (makes sense) and a little bit growing/raising food.  I guess it's easier to buy food than it is to rent a roof.  If you haven't read through Ethan's ant village log, I think he had a good plan going.

A while back another ant was selling their place.  I'm not sure if that's still the case but if a structure is already up and the plot isn't to egregious, that could be a hell of a head start.

I want this thread to be a resource for current and future designers. With that in mind, I will first be collating threads pertaining to wheaton labs and ant village. Then, less location specific threads can be added as they are digested, as well as nifty design ideas.

The core of my design will be soil building/revitalization, trees, plant nursery beds, polycultures, plant guilds, hugelkultur, paddock shift systems, and amongst other things, lots and lots of food and medicine.

I've never been to (only through) montana. The plan is to be there feb. 2.
I have some high desert experience working at a farm south of albuquerque, new mexico for about a year. Not the same I am sure, but as long as trees and food grow in montana, I want to be part of it. My alpha stage plan involves adding something to the permies forum that will help me and hopefully others in the research/designing portion of the craft. This will probably be a link in the first post leading you to another thread I start called something like "design supplement 1: quick reference" which will have loads of links to plant research sites like pfaf, sites with reliable seeds for sale, sites with great informational podcasts, etc. The next thread will be something like "design supplement 2: wheaton labs" and will be very specific to the location therein. Supplement 3 will be elements of design with links to hugelkultur, links to wofati (hans' thread will be in there!), links to food preservation/storage, etc.
I want to contribute something to permies because I have gotten so much great info from it/them over the years.
