The editing and layout is all done, the audiobook is done, the ebook is done, everything is all done.  I have a couple hundred books left.  Sales have been about a dozen per week - and about a third are physical books.  Will people buy more at christmas time?  No clue - my crystal ball has a crack in it.  



Should I print a thousand?   The price per book is cut in half if I print 10,000.   But, wow, that is a lot of money to risk.  A self-pub author friend of mine said that she has a couch that is made entirely of unsold books that is many years old.   And we don't have a lot of storage space here - certainly not enough to make a couch.  


But this can really change the world.  At least, I think it can change the world.   I need to get these books into the brains of 100 million people.   And to do that, I need to get it to 1 million first.   And to do that, it is 10,000 at a time.  

If the books were super, freaky cheap, that might help.  Especially if they were super freaky cheap by the dozen.

Maybe people already bought all the books they will ever buy.  Maybe people need dozens more?   Maybe people

A few ideas from here on who to give the books to:

So here is what I am going to do ...   if enough people will buy the books at these low prices that it all adds up to $5000, I will buy 10,000 copies and thus, can do this lower price.  All you gotta do is click on the thumbs up for the post that you are willing to jump in on.  If it all adds up, I will come back in a few days and set up paypal links so that people can pre-order books.

Once the order goes in, I think it will be more than two months until the new books arrive.  So if I place the order on september 15, I will probably be sending them out sometime around thanksgiving.

This price is lower than the kickstarter price.  Entirely because when we started the kickstarter, we set prices based on a much lower purchase quantity.  Plus, I work hard to be respectful to the kickstarter backers and not sell for a lower price for one full year after the kickstarter.  We shipped the books for the kickstarter last year in late september.  The additional function of the kickstarter is to find a way to leverage the books to make a global difference - primarily through people buying them in bulk to hand out.  

Another reason to support this now:   the reviews are in - the book is excellent.  You probably have already read it yourself.   And as I have been interviewed by experts about the book, the question I put to them is if the book will ignite global change - and response has been a strong "YES!"  All we gotta do is get the book into more hands!

I bought the 10 books back in the day. Have given out most. Still a few to give away. An excellent book with many good ways to improve our lives and our world.

I’m on 5 acres and have planted over 30 trees so far and have more in pots. This is a good year for oak acorns here in the California foothills above Sacramento. Wish I had pigs...lol.
I’m a little selective on who I give the books out to, don’t want them going into the trash.

We have a campsite with off-grid cabins for rent on Airbnb and gave them out in gift bags to our guests.  Lots of positive feedback.  Definitely would love to give out more!

I think at this low price that the book would make an excellent Christmas gift for my husband’s co-workers and lodge friends. (The breakdown of the per book price helped me make up my mind.)

Also, umm, hi! This is my first post. Long time lurker, finally having a reason to post. I have been learning and sharing lots. Having a physical book in hand to shove under noses will help spread the word here in our corner of Virginia. We only have two acres but my yard needs trees!

As an Ex Jehovah's Witness I can tell you that you need a zealot to distribute this book at whatever price you set (even with no price at all).
I doubt your message inspires the special kind  of crazy you are looking for - but I admit; I could very well be wrong to think that way.

Personally, I would make the textbook available though print on demand.
I would then organise a set of clips and sound bites from your audiobook version to be included in animated memes. I recommend Paul's very own hand drawn graphics animated in 20 second short vid's with the goal of directing folk on social media to the print on demand book or full audiobook for more.

Although the scene of the world keeps on changing, I am positive that a paradise with Paul's is secure.

I would take a case!  But the $100.00 fine for being Canadian is a tough pill to swallow. (I already gave most of my copies away from the original kick starter, and the real book is 10x better than the pdf to hand off)

Yes, I'll buy a dozen & share them via: our local beekeepers club, my fav farmers market vendors, a CSA and a BIPOC organic farm collective. I always prefer a real book (vs digital) that I can hold in my hands and then place in others' hands. Thank you!

I don't think that lowering the price will increase the sales or especially the reading of it significantly. The book is worth its price. Helping people see that is the task.

To get in on the cheaper pre-order thing-a-ma-bob, I guess you have to wait a bit.   If we get $5000 worth of "thumbs up" then I will offer pre-orders at the prices above.  If not, it will probably be at a higher price.

The books are for sale at the regular price now.   It seems that at the lower price there is already almost $2000 worth of interest.

I paid $9000 for a publicist and that may have sold 20 books.  

Clearly, the task you suggest is beyond my meager abilities.

While the book is full of freakishly fantastic information, I still have not read it due to the small size of the print.  I would like you to consider a normal sized print of this great intro to our marvelous Permies world.  It would be well worth the money and I'd even give copies away.  Knobby Tires

I think so...my brain is a bit fuzzy after a day of looking at data.

($4.33 per book + $1.67 shipping per book) * 12 books = $72

If you had that in there the first time I probably misread something, sorry...cause me hoomen.

I never thought it was small.  I just asked around and confirmed.  

To do bigger print would require re-doing all of the layout.

I could not afford to buy 10 it's far beyond my economic situation but would definitely buy 3 or 4 copies if it's cheap enough it's the shipping out side the USA that's the killer for me

Is there any way to group shipping and bring down the price for Europe , or even set up a publish and distribute here........I'd be good for 12-32 copies...also how about the idea of adding (sponsored) adds to links products stuff you like to bring down the price? A few extra pages at the start and end could bring in a lot.... love the book, read it in New Zealand

The shipping cost almost doubles the price...but good luck with it all...

I would go with eBook. Sadly give away is a Problem due to the fact that it would need Translation into German languageWould be great if there is a Person in this Community good enough with Englisch to German Translation to do this Job.

Physical books from you are a price Problem not due to the price per book but due to shipping costs.
Mabe it makes sense to use amazon Programm "create space" in order to get it shipped at a lower price and reaching more people. In such a case where shipping really get's a drop i most likely go with a physical book

Is this book sufficiently relevant to other climates globally to be worth nearly doubling the cost to people who live outside the US?

Is your priority to sell within the US?
Might it be worth selling slightly more expensive to the US market to enable the book to be more affordable globally?

Actually, I had just given away my last copy last week and was thinking about ordering more when the Daily hit my email today!

Also, after giving away my last copy, it occurred to me that I must have given away my signed copy, and I don't know when or to whom.  I was kinda bummed about that.

I got a small box (6) of books here when it was new. I gave all of them away. From reactions I got I know people who read it enthusiastically.
I had one book of my own (with messages written in it by Paul, Shawn and others). That one I did borrow out to a friend ... I already miss it now. Hope she will give it back soon .
