Sorry to get all serious, but somebody's got to point out the absurdity of my low apple count.

Perhaps instead of a steaming pile of cow POO, we could use banana peels. The idea being "Caution! this post could cause trouble. The good part is missing and what we're left with could hurt someone or something."

I knew a guy who would post the names of the TOS violators and the reason for account termination on his site. He kept a thread separate for it and he was the only one who could post there. It was available for all to see, so that folks were aware of what constituted bad behavior. A lot of it was spam and people who created false accounts to harass other members. Anyway, maybe it would be useful to tag "Banana Posts" and copy them to a thread called " The Banana Circle", for other permies to see.

I guess I think a happy medium would be to maybe make the banana able to be seen by the individual who posted the comment and then copy it to a "Banana Circle" with "Anonymous" as the poster name.
This way the poster knows they crossed a line without being publicly humiliated, and the comment can be seen by others as a teaching tool for better behavior.

i really like the idea of a Personal banana notifier in conjunction with id removed listings in one place.
This makes for a very useful tool and feedback loop without causing pointed fingers and drama in a wider circle.
Every now and then i read something that i think may have crossed a line and once posted something that i think may have been too defensive.
A peel would have warned me and the thread of them gives me an idea of where to draw future lines.

no feelings gettin hurt, or if so well, screw 'em. would of been hurt anyway and probably caused more to be hurt without the warning.

Btw, bananas are good but we shouldn't be eating them unless they can be grown without slave labor and shipping thousands of miles.

I stopped buying bananas a year ago. They personally make me sick (physically) and I think they are more candy than food at this point considering the sugar content. Plus they are clearly not a "sustainable" thing. Whatever that means anymore.

When a thread gets out of hand you could say it "went bananas".

Oh how you taunt me!

The other day I jumped from 6 to 7 apples. Then a few hours later, I was inexplicably demoted to 6. > --- I haven't done any snickering in the alternative energy section lately. I even refrained from commenting when a member explained his plan to produce atomic energy at home. It's a mystery that I hope one of you will investigate for a few days.

I'm now back to 7 but that doesn't mean I've forgotten the lost one. Perhaps the team of experts who have been assigned to read all of my old posts found something they didn't like. I can only assume from my apple count, that they are less than 10% finished, and have skipped past some of the good parts, in order to save time. I can be long winded.

It's been a hard slog. Looking at the top ten --- Julia has been chugging ahead since Winter. Jack is just hoping to survive. Two ladies are working together. There's Adrien on point followed closely by her rock solid assistant Cassie. Burra is chugging along with the tenacity of an old mule. Tel has jettisoned his backpack in a valiant attempt to overtake Jaikiran who packed lots of pie for the journey. Allan is savoring the moment now that he's in 3rd place. Leila feels very rich with an impressive basket of 46 apples. Just as John was ready to poke his head past all rivals, Ernie and Erica tossed all of their apples into one basket and whizzed past the pack for the lead with a combined 51 apples. Will the others cry foul ? What will the judges have to say ? Stay tuned for further updates.

I have no idea how one might lose an apple. Haven't seen any "rotten apple" or "rotten banana" logos, so I don't think that has arrived.

I got a head start because I had bought a "gob" of podcasts (for a big $5) and early on Paul decided to reward everyone who had actually monetized his empire with 10 apples. After that, I think it was for transcribing podcasts. You can get an apple just for catching the eye of one of the minions charged with distributing them.

Julia, I also got my ten from the podcasts. Think I payed like 2.50 X four sets but can't remember. Lets say it was $5. I also just bought the early bird cards for $100. I won 'em fair and square.

And, EEWWWW.. Catching eyes sounds kinda gross. I hope you can sleep at night trading eyes for apples on the black market. I suppose it also makes the distributors harder to see the rest of us' good deeds.

BTW, I nominate "Fair & Square" be the third ethic of the moment. It also rhymes and can mean anything the person uttering it wants.

For the record --- I didn't buy any of my apples. In fact, I strongly suspect that my outspoken nature on matters that I judge to be unscientific, my libertarian politics and love of gutter humor have cost me apples. The only way that this could be proved or disproved would be if there were transparency in all behind the scenes matters. That's not going to happen. Looking at the first one, you'll notice that stewards occupy most of the top spots and that many of the others are Paul's friends and relatives. These are members who have the power to award apples. Users with most apples (last 30 days) I'm quite pleased with this one. There I am with 8 apples in one month. I've been told that some got large boxes of apples for services rendered. Erica has whizzed past most of the pack with 20 this month, which puts her at 50. Her husband Ernie is stuck at 23. Just imagine if they were to have some little disagreement at home. Erica could say, " ya know what Ernie, I have 50 apples, so shut it" . I would have given them 10 apiece in order to avoid this sort of thing.

The thumbs up feature is a much more democratic one. Thumbs up are added by members who find the post informative or worthy in some other way. Often a steward makes an announcement and that post is given many thumbs up. This makes it much harder for the rank and file to claw their way to the top, since all of ours are based on the quality of our posts. --- I'm quite happy to be in a comfortable third place. Those surrounding me are mostly stewards, so I tell myself that I'm kicking all of their asses. (If I fail to achieve 8 apples next month, it can only mean one thing. Punishment for making light of the serious business of apple harvest and distribution.)

Dale - I've noticed you harvesting apples right and left! Well, I'm glad to report that I've squeaked past Kristie. Here are the latest results for the most thumbs up in the last month. I was gone for a week, so not sure if the spread was greater earlier in the week.

This is a good idea.

Jennifer is the one to watch. This wordsmith of considerable endurance, is drawing on years of experience in dry land gardening and many other interests. In under 3 months she has accumulated 15 apples and 90 thumbs up. Most of this has happened in the last 30 days! Burra often gets to dole out much deserved spankings. A flurry of thumbs up often result. John Elliot has clawed his way to 4th place slowly and deliberately, like an unstoppable fungus. Adam has helped many newbies with farming questions. All of these thumbs up were much deserved.

I'm the only one near the top of the list who often engages in a good wallow through the muddy waters of religion, pseudoscientific debunking, conspiracy theory stomping and snickering at Utopian delusion. I don't engage in name calling, but I'm a regular recipient. A few names near the bottom of the list made it there after they said something snarky to me that was much appreciated by like minded individuals. You could say that these were a backhanded thumbs down to me. There have been hundreds of these. Looking at the top of the all time thumbs up list ---

I know people that have been on permies longer than the apple introduction would lose, but if there was a way to figure it once apples were brought to the market I think it could make it an interesting figure.
