Amazed at how well comfrey poultices work! When I have a small injury, I skip the blender and other tools. I just take small new growth leaves, strip the central vein out, and then roll and twist by hand. The twisting breaks down the leaves to release the juices. Moisten with a few drops of water and bam- ready for a quick and easy small poultice.

I was pulling grass out of the garden beds and noticed my knuckle was bleeding. A blister had formed and popped and a blade of grass had cut my finger.
Off I went to harvest a Comfrey and put half a leaf in my mouth to masticate, didn't taste bad but didn't like the texture.  Spit it out on my booboo, added a few drops of my homemade Fire Cider, and wrapped my finger with the rest of the leaf.  Tied with cotton string for gardening and left it on until morning.

The comfrey paste went on green, fire cider was almost clear, but just look at that stain!  3 days later, with handwashing and showers, the stain is still vibrant.

My hands were irritated after a day with lots of hand washing, and the skin on my finger split. I made a comfrey poultice to put on the cuts.

I started the comfrey from seed early this year.

Minimum requirements:
 - Create a poultice
 - Use comfrey leaf

To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (< 2 minutes):
 - Harvested plant material (either being harvested or just harvested)
 - Plant material in mid-preparation
 - Finished poultice on a body or in a labeled container

One would think at thirty years old, I might be more aware of the space that I occupy? Sadly, I do not and I SLAMMED my shoulder the other day causing a rather nice bruise to appear quickly. I have a whole smattering of Comfrey roots that I have started in my nursery that were starting to crowd out each other with their leaves. Snipped a few and decided to get this BB completed. I went into this with some preconceived negative impression of poultices but currently I am rather enjoying the cooling sensation on the bruise as I type this.

dawn west wrote:My husband hurt his knee so it is time to try the comfrey poultice.   I debated the use of the small electric mixer instead of a mortar/pestal but decided that if I needed a back hoe to build my first huglebed then I could use the mixer.  I also decided to create a dedicated rag system to keep large enough cloth lengths for the poultice to wrap around the knee.
