Would Food-Grade mineral oil be okay? I have 2/3 of a gallon of the stuff, & one of its many purposes is to oil wooden kitchenware & food prep surfaces like cuttingboards.

Oil must be edible and not made from petroleum

I asked Mr. Google who said that Mineral oil is "refined petroleum-based hydrocarbons"

I would have to say that even if it is food grade it is still a petroleum product.

It is time to make some wood happy!
I am using 100% Coconut oil because it is what I have on hand and because I don't have walnut oil.

I didn't have walnut oil so I opted for flaxseed or linseed oil that I had because I use it to season my cast iron skillets. It wouldn't have been the ideal choice because flax has a little bit of an odor. I would have gone with coconut oil like a lot of the posters above but I found online that

Food based oils like olive, corn, vegetable, and canola oils will never dry and chip off into your food like hardening oils, but they can discolor your utensils, thicken, and go rancid, giving your spoons and cutting boards a rotten smell.

I found conflicting information about what oil to use but I seem to trust this website: https://treeboard.com/blog/nine-myths-about-linseed-oil-and-flaxseed-oil/

My required photos are attached (and hopefully in the correct order this time)

I'm so glad that this was a badge requirement because I had previously never thought about this!!
