Kerry, Paul has a nice microscope set up and a couple of us here have skills to use it. It even has a camera mount! Paul is sitting across the table right now and he says we can use his microscope.

I’m really excited to do some microscopy, I just haven’t found the time yet. So many wonderful projects here.

It might be a good idea to take some pictures of microbe counts in the soil before and after application of the compost tea. I’d also like to test the compost itself.

The last piece we are missing here is a backpack sprayer for applying our teas.

Broke ground on the first Hugelkultur of the year at Allerton Abbey today! Excavator time lapses are fun.

Awesome!  I asked because this has been on my back burner for years.  When I found out you actually have to practice at the identification, I kinda chickened out a little.   Well, a lot.

Maybe you will inspire me to try again.  I have a bin of worm compost ready to harvest.  :)

I have been enjoying doing this little horticulture project. It’s also very practical, rooted clones of obscure plants can be expensive and difficult to obtain.

Do you know the 12 varieties in the living fence seedmix?

There was another living fence thread, where I was going to share my pictures of the seed packets, but the pictures are so bad that everything except "hornbeam" is totally illegible.

the ten I can remember off the top of my head are Hornbeam, autumn olive, jujube, russian olive, rosa rugosa, black locust, sea berry, osage orange, hazelnut, and black thorn. I'll ask fred about the other two next time I see him.

Last time I visited the Bullocks Permaculture Homestead, they gave me a pile of fan palm seeds. I have moved twice since then and fortuitously, 5 of the seedlings ended up at Wheaton Labs with me. We will see how they like Abbey life :)

The other two seeds were hawthorn and honey locust.
