Awesome.  The first time I read "gate plate", I didn't quite understand where that fit in.  Seeing it in the video unconfuddled me.  In essence, it is a lintel.  Egyptian doorways had heiroglyphs on the lintel, so having the Bark Park sign up there makes perfect sense.

Well done Boots!

We tried using our hole saw, and it was somewhat effective. One thing to note was that the hole saw was maybe 2 inches deep, when we needed to make a hole that was 4 inches deep and -didn't- go all the way through the wood. So mainly the paddle drill bit and some chisels won out for this particular task.

Appreciate the kudos Derek! We also appreciate the use of the word "lintel," as we had no idea what we were talking about and the term "gate plate" was our stand-in, and both JP and I knew what we meant. That's the best Boots can do, sometimes.

I have a small concern, coming from someone who occasionally gets pressed into service babysitting friend's animals. The gate seems to auto-swing in towards where the dogs are supposed to be staying.

Swinging easily is a good thing for some gates, but I'm worried that some sneaky dog is going to zip through to freedom before unfamiliar users are prepared?

Maybe check out my concern with some of the folks who are likely to be using the area? At least one of my dog owning friends had a metal spring system on their gate so that it would auto close. I realize you are avoiding metal, but if you're allowing rope of some sort, a weight on a rope to auto-close the gate may end up being useful.

Nice idea, Jay! We've been discussing how to re-integrate pulley-and-weight systems to close gates behind us, and the Bark Park makes good sense as a candidate. I'll address this with the rest of the team and we'll see what we come up with.
