What special meaning, does "Gardener" have here on permies? Why they're the volunteers who cultivate this site and make it the nicest, friendliest, most informative site on the interwebs. Being spring in many places, we just hatched ourselves some new Gardeners and we want everyone to welcome their arrival to the Garden of Permies we're growing right here and now.

Welcome:

Clay Bunch
Christopher Weeks,
Kristine Keeney
Mercy Pergande
Saana Jalimauchi

Another nifty thing about permies is that many of us like to make something great out of cast-offs that others wouldn't ever think of, so for passing their training, I give our new gardeners a picture for their garden!

(I would have preferred giving plants or seeds, but that's much trickier than a picture.)

Thanks, Jay! The learning continues to be pretty intense but helping out is rewarding.

Thank you! It's great to be a part of permies and being invited to keep it great is an honor. This is the best plot on the internet and I'm glad to help tend it!

Thank you all!
I wouldn't have been able to be here without the help of kind and generous people over the years.

Congrats to my fellow new gardeners, too! Clay, Christopher, Saana, and Mercy, I am proud to stand with you.

Now that you're Gardeners, you might feel like I do: I always feel totally justified in spending my time on Permies since I am working here! Welcome and enjoy!

Before now, I was here to learn - reading, letting my mind wander with other like-minded people.
This is a safe space, internet-wise, without the pressures of the outside world, but where I can ask people about topics that I don't know anything about.

Now, I'm still here to learn. But the people I held in high regard having given me a choice - I have tools to help keep the Bad Things away from this safe place that others have, thoughtfully carved out.
I am joined with the rest of the people on patrol.
I can still learn, but I have more regard for how my words might sound to others. I have more care about what happens and how that effects the whole. I can help to ask the questions that someone else may have, but they haven't put into words, yet.

It's a different kind of peace - the peace of having a stake in the future of a thing, whether there's truth to that feeling of possession or not.

Thank you and I appreciate the opportunity to put the contents of my brain to some use other than surprising people with the ridiculous amount of very esoteric trivia it holds.

Thank you everyone! ❤️

I’m so happy to be a part of this community. Five months ago when I found Permies I was really badly stuck. Part of it was because of the winter, but a big chunk of it was because I knew what I wanted to do with my life and our place, but wasn’t sure how to get there.

I didn’t know about mulching, dynamic accumulators or compost teas. I knew I wanted to grow as much of our own food as I could.

I have learned so much in just five months.. I feel like now I have a path to follow, a path that will take me to my goals. There’s a structure now in my head, about everything, but at the same time I know there are tons of things to learn more about, every day.

I’m so grateful for this place. A huge thank you to Paul and every one of you, every Permie who make this place as awesome as it is.

I’m glad I get to give back a bit, even a tiny bit, for this community by being a Gardener.

Yay! Thanks for coming aboard to help out - the site is a better place because you're on it!

She's brilliant. She can see what can be and is not limited to what is. And she knows this tiny ad:
