I hardly see bumper stickers where I live. Back window decals occasionally, but that's about it. When I was growing up in No. GA 20 years ago bumper stickers were everywhere though.

I have nuanced political opinions that bumper stickers don't exist for, so I make my own removable bumper magnets for my car. Highly recommend doing so 1) for the fun of it and 2) for the satisfaction of educating the local populace in your opinions.

I remember the bumper sticker that said, `Shit Happens`.

Otherwise, it has been years since I saw any.

What would be really cool is if we could get a permaculture campaign going with cool saying like `Plant Flowers`, `Home Grown`, `Spare the Weeds`, etc.

They are still a thing in my area. There are a bunch of designs that incorporate the shape of a state that are popular around here.

Oregon bumper sticker

Washington PNW Sticker

Sasquatch and a driver's belief in his existence, is a common theme.

There are plenty where I am at in the Northeast.

Lot of outdoor based stickers. Hikers and such.

I see a few.  Jackson County is nearby. My recent favorite, “ My son was ‘Inmate of the Month’ at Jackson County Jail”.

I think they've declined in popularity... My wife makes custom bumper stickers though and sells them!

Bumper stickers seemed more popular than ever when I lived on the west coast a decade ago, and since moving back to the midwest I noticed them growing in popularity here too. I haven't kept count but it feels like a majority or large minority of cars on the road have at least one, many have more than one. Also going from memory (I haven't taken any formal measurements), I'd say the bumper stickers are less likely to be "messages" and more likely to be words or symbols that represent affiliation with some organization, cause, team, lifestyle, etc. though both kinds are easy to spot. The "message" bumper stickers seem more popular among teenagers.

It was still a thing when this permies thread was started in 2019: https://permies.com/t/123310/Funny-bumper-car-stickers

I wrote back then, "I *really* want a bumper sticker for my bicycle that says, "My other vehicle is a back-hoe loader."  Maybe I could make one that would fit on my pannier?"

I painted one up, but it faded out after a couple of years.

My biggest problem with bumper stickers is when the writing is too small and people tail gate to read it. I guess that's where the sticker came from that reads, "If you can Read this Bumper Sticker, you're Too Damn Close"!

They're fairly popular, here, with a few cars seemingly held together with them...
