v This is a boils down to proposition ! Usually as a First time presenter, you must get your point acrost in much less then 15 minutes, however Paul Staments did a great job ! Big AL !

From what I have heard, doing a TED talk is like having a full time job.

You must be there for the full week. You must attend all of the other talks.
You must attend various other functions.
You must wine & dine with the other participants.
Your entire week is theirs. You are not free to come and go.
From the time you wake up, until bed time, you have no free time.

Kind of like Army boot camp...you stay there until they tell you that you can leave.

With Paul's commitment to The Land, I don't think he would commit to their schedule.

I would do a TED talk. I've heard about the time commitment stuff - so we would need to be prepared for my absence.

The important thing about all that we are doing here is to infect brains. Allan Savory's stuff got a half million views. Plus, the people in the audience, my understanding is that those are not just common folk. They are influential.

Sounds smart to me.

et al : The kind of people who travel to see and be seen at the ted talks are mostly the C.E.O.s, C.F.O.s and traveling Companions who are usually not arm candy.

This is networking at its finest,a 'good ol boy club', and'' 'jim let me introduce you to -'

The fine folks at Aprovecho also rely heavily on a C.E.O. to C.E.O. network, have been around now for 30 + years, and not yet managed to solve even one of the
Worlds problems, Good ol boy networks, are rarely useful, they mostly fought F.D.R. right up to the start of WW11! Just my 2 cents ! Big AL

I think those clubs work better for the old boys than for the rest of us. I've never been able to determine an agenda for Aprovecho, but not for lack of trying. It must be more than 20 years ago that I learned of their rocket stoves, but always in the context of relief work. I can't find a forum or other ways for average people to share their knowledge easily.

Alan Savorys' TEDTalk was very inspirational . Like any good sermon or motivational speech it inspired me not to put a For Sale sign up , but instead to plan for sheep and goats next spring . I never once thought about who the attending audience was or what they thought . Nor do I give a rats butt.

I figured they were friends, family and others involved in the field that the presenter talks about. Sort of like how a game show audience is populated. I guess I'll check on the price of tickets. ---------------------------------------------

10 hours later ---- Wow. Tickets are hundreds and thousands of dollars each. You have to apply to get invited. Forms must be filled out and only those judged worthy may attend.

Luckily, we may all attend a YouTube version for free. I only learned of Ted Talks last year, so I plan to catch up on old ones.

I have news!

Paul is one of the speakers at TEDx Whitefish (Montana) on Jan. 16, 2014. This is the first ever TEDx Whitefish.

TEDx events are smaller, local events that are less onerous to participate in / speak at than the big TED Talks. TEDx events have to follow all kinds of rules in order to be a TEDx, including limiting attendees until they go through a few things. So this event is already sold out. There will be a way to watch online as with all TED talks.

For more info on speakers, see their website or FB page:

http://tedxwhitefish.com/

I am not sure the highly controlled, NPR like TED format is ready for 15 minutes of Wheaton...

But I am sure it will be entertaining.

Please, Please, Please punk them out on the CFL light bulbs somehow.

And 1000 Internets if you use the phrase "the department of making you sad" during the talk.

I think you went 2 hours backwards, instead of forwards. It starts at 11 am EST. 9 am MST.

Anyways, I'll be there, or here I guess.

That's the link for watching live, but it's not streaming just yet. Section 2 is scheduled to start at 10:50 a.m. Mountain time and Paul's 4th in line there. Each talk should be about 18 minutes.

Ah so 54 minutes after 10:50 at 11:44 mtn / 12:44 central is approximately when we can expect Paul to go on. Sadly I will be sitting in a classroom.
