As I understand it some people listen more to songs than albums, others albums than songs and still others perhaps artists. Streaming and digital technology have made things a lot less organized now that songs can be ordered and re-ordered many times. Yet I still prefer to listen to albums, in order.

Edit: I should also include EPs, 78s, and the rest! The older ways of listening that is...

How do you listen to your music?

Streaming is annoying.  They often don't have the music I want to listen to and i can buy 2 new, or 20 used cd on what they charge per month for advert free.

If I want ads, I listen to the radio.  Fewer adverts and more local.  But too much talking and not enough music.

That said, the library has some free streaming services, but you borrow the whole album.

So yep, album for the win.

yes!
first photo is turntable (just under 1000 lp's)...projector for dvd's from the library...dvd player for same and cd's...stack is receiver, cassette player and vhs player...pretty good speakers that I've promised not to blow out (again)😏

second photo...cd's, cassettes and a few vhs tapes...never had 8 track we were way off grid then.

third photo is the other music in our house🥰

edit to add that I like listening to the whole record as the artist intended...although there are many stand alone songs I LOVE.

I think it depends on the medium, where the music is sourced from, depends on if I listen to a full album or not.

If I listen to digital music, I tend to listen to specific songs instead of a whole album.

If I listen to my physical media such as a music album, I tend to listen to the whole thing.

The only exception to the rule is if I get a hankering to listen to a rock opera like Tommy, then I HAVE to listen to the whole thing regardless of how I source the music!

I listen to full albums still but they aren't vinyls or CDs. Been collecting full metal albums in the form of MP3s since around 2001. It's mostly 80s-90s era death metal, black metal, thrash etc.. so the albums were still formatted to be listened to all the way through like a story, similar to rock and other genres at the time and previous. That trend seems to have died off but then again, I haven't really listened to newer albums.

I also collect classical MP3s, mostly string related, like violin concertos, string quartets and solo violin stuff.

They may be MP3s but it's still a "hard copy" that you can play on an MP3 player or device without an internet connection.

In the car: albums (on CD). Currently have Meat Puppets “Out My Way” in the CD player. Previously to that had in “Trap Or Die 3” by Jeezy. Before that I had in my latest album purchase, “Anagnorisis” by Dwiki Dharmawan (Indonesian jazz fusion), which I’ve now listened to like 5 or 6 times through over and over.

While doing dishes with headphones on: 15-60 minute YouTube videos of live performances. Recently listened to Rage Against the Machine play (I think it was) Woodstock ‘99. Often it’s whatever random performance YouTube’s algorithm has recommended, if it catches my eye and I’m in the mood for it. A lot of the times these are artists I’ve never heard of, and usually I don’t go seeking out more by them later.

I do have Pandora on the iPad, which shuffles through songs I’ve thumbsed-up in given genres, and I will occasionally put that on while I’m cooking. Had my classic country station on most recently, before that it was Spanish-language reggae, before that it was late 90s/early 00s gangster rap.

Generally I think if an artist went through the trouble to record a bunch of songs and put them in an order and release them as a set, I should listen to them in that order as a set.

I have albums in both 33 & 78, as well as CDs. But, no turntable or CD player, lol. So, I listen to both albums and individual songs, streaming. The upsides: I don't have to invest money into buying them, or labor, space, and time to maintain them. The downsides: what I want to listen to isn't always available, and if I can't think of the name of a song or album, or a fair amount of the lyrics, I'm just sorry out of luck, if the streaming device can't pick up on whatever cues I can give.

i have moved a lot and ripped my large CD collection to digital (apple's music service at the time, also stored on an ancient Iphone 2 [!!] I use as an Ipod for air travel). in the meantime my husband signed us up to Spotify and i haven't seen my own music in ages (should probably check and make sure it's all still around somewhere).
Even using streaming, I often listen to full albums; last night I was sent a playlist (remakes of Beatles classics) and decided to listen to the full album (Stevie Wonder, Signed Sealed Delivered, which features a great version of We Can Work It Out).
That said, I do like using my 'ipod' with some real rarities like old techno compilations I bought while traveling internationally (and I've hunted for online and been unable to find again). And I also really like Youtube every so often when I want to hear something specific like a Greatful Dead concert (those kind of jams can be great work music when I'm on a really nasty project) or rare things like early Prince and collaborations. I like it all!

yep. vinyl, cassettes, cds, and also streaming. lots of full albums and sometimes individual songs or playlists. not going to try to list artists or even genres as we are a musical polyglot family and there are just too many ways to go…but options include afrobeat, sludge metal, folk, soul, and homemade experimental stuff, just for a taste.
