Come Vote On A Name For Paul's New 8 DVD Set About Rocket Mass Heaters!!

We had TONS of great nominations for this name. So now it is time to pick your favorite. We are going to use our new little dealio called apple polls!


We introduced a form of taking a poll with some special features. The most interesting is that the more apples you have, the more votes you get. Everyone who has about 30 posts or more gets one vote, plus you get an extra vote for each apple you have. As you earn more apples, you can change your votes. (Or if you change your mind.) Just go to your user profile to see a list of apple polls you've voted in.

There are a few really good ones up there. What about "World Domiation: Fire at will!" Too much room for interpretation? and 8 dvds set? Wow.

Just to show that I can be a total dumba$$, I must ask where is the voting page? Or how do you vote?

What happens if you click the little brown vote thing and nothing happens?

I think that if you have 0 apples than you can not vote.

I don't think I can vote either, cause nothing happened when I "voted", but I like the one about heating your home without toasting the world.
All are great tho.

What is the minimum number of posts needed to vote?

I'm so confused guys. I thought everyone was able to vote. Maybe I missed something though. Working on getting this figured out.

I would suggest a second election, using this one to narrow the field. Reduce the field as you wish, to a run off of the top two, three, or five. Etc.

Or not How soon is a decision needed?

Awww... it won't let me vote. Says I need to post more (have 4 posts and started 1 thread). So here ya go - another post. Wonder what the magic number is?

I've started a few threads and commented more than a few, even a few purple mooseages and still don't have an apple or have any idea on how to get one.

Sombody better tinker with the site! Apples are not appearing and votes are not being registered.

The when does one recieve apples thread, links to useful threads page, making better posts thread, and win/earn books page may be useful for learning to earn apples.

Hi everyone. I am SO sorry but I totally thought everyone got a vote with these apple polls but apparently only people with around 30 posts or more can vote. It is a new thing and so I am sorry I lead everyone in the wrong direction because I didn't have the right details.. My bad.

So, is there a small preview of these 8 DVD's so people can get a better idea of what they are naming? Just a thought

My take is the apple awards are merit based. And there is a daily vote for new awards.

Apple awards are not based merely on how much you contribute but what you contribute.

And the 'come vote' was put on a general broadcast email with link; but when getting here a number of members and posters are NOT apple winner so we can't vote. That seems to be the major problem. Us great unwashed unappled masses got here and can't vote. I commented earlier on which one I liked, which is the best I can do since I haven't been worthy enough to earn an apple yet. Yet. Tis okay, just the way it worked out.

The poll goes until Paul or I close it. Not really sure if we will have a second round. We haven't discussed it. We'll see.

Deb, according to my understanding, you should be able to vote based on the number of posts you've made. Did you try to vote and it didn't work?

Yes and it didn't work. So I assume it's because I am apple-less and I'll just need to work harder to earn one.

I don't think it's currently programmed right, because I don't get 1 vote plus my apple votes. I think it only--currently--gives as many votes as you have apples. I have 13 apples, and 13 votes. This might be why people with enough posts still can't vote. Is the any way to fix the programming?

I like the "New World Wood Stoves" one.

Dave Burton, thank you for the links. Guess I should get off my lazy arse and post up a thread about my 4" rmh. Maybe I'd get an apple - or a rotten tomato! I mean, 4" systems are just silly. Totally looking forward to the new DVDs, whatever the name!!!

Apple polls is a new feature in our forum software. I asked cassie to use it for this poll so that we might be able to test the feature as well as narrow down the list of possible names. Stacking functions!

It sounds like apple polls needs a little more polish.

The apple poll stuff was designed for polling on really important stuff like "best book" or "best DVD". A problem with most polling stuff is that it can be gamed: people will create a hundred accounts so they can put in a hundred votes and thus make their product "best". But with apple polls, you limit the voters to "judges" rather than something that can be gamed. Through a bit of configuration, you can determine who can be a judge: people with a certain number of posts or apples? And people with a lot of apples - can influence the vote more than people with just a few.

Since this is not something where anyone might try to game the system, my suggesting the use of apple polls turns out to be silly.

I think we should have another round of voting with, perhaps, "the top ten" and then people can do that thing with the thumbs up. That seems to work really well.

I can't get the buttons to work either. But I vote for substainable heat.

I would think we could come up with names that aren't about world domination, although that's fun... that aren't about one-up-manship, though it's human nature... and aren't about to scare people offfffff with silliness. The title should draw people in...and less make them pass up on the title and miss the whole book. Now I'm sounding like a know-it-all... What's essential in a title? Stating what the heck you are writing about, gathering readers, and with P culture, extending that hand, or that "leg up"... so, out of the titles you list, I like Earth, Wind, and Fire... or something like Rocket Mass Heaters 2015: The Next Generation.
