Disappointed that you can't make it to the 2017 Homesteader's Permaculture Design Course at Wheaton Labs?

Don't despair! We're going to bring the course to you!

That's right, we're working on making the course a live streaming event. But we need some very special equipment to make that happen.
So, we've set up a Kickstarter, and are handing out some great rewards to our backers, including the whole set of videos that comes out of these courses!

Visit our Kickstarter HERE!

We've got an incredible line-up of instructors.

Each instructor brings a fresh and unique approach to permaculture. We want to give students a lot of info and a broad view of the possibilities that permaculture offers. You don't want to miss this opportunity to see all of these instructors doing their thing!

Tim Barker

Paul Wheaton

Thomas J Elpel

Zach Weiss

Jacqueline Freeman

Helen Atthowe

Ernie Wisner

Erica Wisner

Davin Hoyt

Rewards

We've got lots of videos, a bee course, some rocket mass heater plans, and of course the chance to get first dibs on the live streaming of the courses, and the many hours of videos that will come out of this project!

Please visit our Kickstarter page, check out the great rewards offered, and get in line to view this amazing event.

Thanks Paul.

One thing that I did not see on your kickstarter page was a link to the description of the PDC
(This PDC will have a strong focus on DESIGN. Students attending this PDC will probably walk away with four times more experience with designing than students attending other PDCs. Most PDCs give equal time to urban, homestead and broadacre designs. This PDC will cover all three, but urban and broadacre design will be minimized so a stronger focus can be put on homesteading.)
or other links that send people back to Permies to learn more about the CONTENT or SCHEDULE of the PDC/ATC. This may be of interest for people that are not acquainted with Permies or this PDC.

We do provide that sort of thing on the PDC page which we link to.

For the kickstarter document, I am a bit worried it is already really big.   Perhaps we need to make more emphasis on the link to the PDC?

Apparently, I started this kickstarter at 2:08pm mountain time.   So it currently has about three hours to go ...

I get the impression that there have been some updates in the thoughts about best practices for building RMHs since your DVDs came out.  This may just be my impression based on snippets here and there. I'd love to see a video, start to finish, of a single-concept replicable RMH build using materials that anyone could purchase at their local hardware store, rather than bits and bobs and making do based on what's at hand or being muddled by different people.  If I'm mistaken and that is already part of the last video set, please disregard and I'll just buy that someday...

This is WILDLY exciting. Most awesome is that I'm in the PNW, and was thinking of attending the Bullock Bros' PDC (or Aprovecho's, though that would be harder from the Oly Peninsula), but I may not need to after this, saving some serious hard-earned. But if I DO want to attend the Bros, I will have been able to study this PDC beforehand...to ask the best questions and so really get something out of the experience.

One question before I fork over a bill...what will be the image quality of the $100 package's 220 hours? I have terrible internet out here but am regularly in Seattle, Olympia or Tacoma with wifi. I'd rather have the best image quality, size be damned. If I need to know something from sight in the video I can always learn it, then reencode the videos for archiving...but if I can't see something clearly in a 360p video, I'm never gonna see it.

Oh right!  I needed to add the stuff about resolution to the FAQ:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/live-stream-permaculture-design-course-and-app-tec/faqs#project-faqs

Here is a still from the 360p version of "Better Wood Heat":

Thanks Paul. To clarify: if I'm watching live (unlikely unless I decamp to a city for awhile) it will be 360. If I download it will be 360.

But "recorded streaming" is 720, how do I get that? Not that the 360 still you attached doesn't look pretty good. (I got youtube PTSD from all kinds of ≤360 stuff)

Afraid I'm a bit dim at this point, but it looks like you're *trying* to get us 720p that we can DL. Either way wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me personally!

I'd take you up on the 20% kickback if it's still available!

If we pinkie swear that we watched all 220 hours, could we get a little certificate to print off that says we're trained?

How long after the event would the video be available to watch?  Months, years?

Thanks!

Paul - wow! You may get triple the goal by the end of the kickstarter!  Will this allow you to buy higher quality equipment, or better or more infrastructure to do this more in the future?  Congrats! Can't wait to see the events.

This is so exciting.

I was actually a bit bummed out about your PDC and especially the AT.  I'm thinking "oh great, yet another awesome thing I'll never get to attend because it's in some far away place."  But now, it's possible and really affordable!

We have come up with a stretch goal.   We have figured out a budget and verified we can do it.  Now I just need to mash it in to the kickstarter.

Stretch Goal!

Now officially in the kickstarter ....

If we hit $35,000, we will get a huge screen put in over the chalkboard and set up a chat thing so that people that are watching live can type in questions and comments.

Just look at this huge, lonely space above the chalkboard:

And now with SUPER CHAT!

Much better.   Could be a source for comedy!
