This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in Electricity.

In this Badge Bit, you will add a 220 volt AC circuit including a new breaker and outlet(s).  Are you sick of taking your welder into the house to use the clothes dryer outlet?  Time to install a 220V outlet on its own circuit!

Here's a video of a guy installing a 220 VAC outlet and breaker:

To complete this BB, the minimum requirements are:
  - install a new breaker
  - install a new 220 VAC outlet (welder, range, dust collector, etc)

To show you've completed this Badge Bit, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
  - the breaker box before and after the breaker installation
  - the area before and after the outlet(s) are installed
  - the work in progress

Today I put in a 240v outlet and breaker.  What, you don't believe me? Here's proof:

Staff note (gir bot) :

Someone flagged this submission as an edge case BB.
BBV price: 0
Note: You did everything right except a big safety thing that we feel is worth requiring you do first. Where the wire goes into the outlet box it needs to be protected from the sharp edge of the box.  $1 of hardware should fix it.

Can't let Kyle be the only one doing 220 outlets.  I thought I'd give him some company here, oh, and I wanted to be able to run my new welder off 220 instead of 110.  So this required me to install an outlet and breaker to do this.

It was a fairly straightforward job, though I did need to remove some wall paneling to add the box and wiring.  It's out in my pole barn so it's not like things need to be beautiful.  The wall panel is OSB after all.  I was able to mount the outlet box right near the breaker box so that made it easy as far as wire runs go.

My breaker box had two spare breakers in it already that were right next to each other.  Perfect, I just pulled them out and could install the 220 breaker in those slots.  I also first tried using some 6 gauge solid copper ground wire I already had.  It ended up being just way too stiff so I abandoned that and used more of the wire I was using for the hot leads after running to the hardware store to get a roll of green electrical tape so I could properly mark it as a ground wire.

Here are the picks for my BB submission on this project.

A work in progress shot. I've removed the wall board, added the outlet box, and started running the wires. In this photo I'm trying to use a solid copper ground wire, but it was too stiff so that got replaced.

I think they should change the spelling to Sandy Eggo. This tiny ad agrees with me.
