Club style mallet - PEP BB roundwood.sand.club

I started out by shaving off the lower end of my piece of log with the hatchet. Then I slowly shaped it into a club. At the end I cleaned it off with a wood file to get the end product.

Those mallets are all really big!   I would like to suggest that future folks try for smaller mallets.

My first visit out to Wheaton Labs was very eye opening. It truly helped me get a better sense of the vision and the mission. I am wholeheartedly behind this endeavor and look forward to an amazing PEP program in May!

I'm not the best historian and therefore not many pictures were taken, but I am proud of the finished product. Took much longer than 7 minutes though! In the future I'll be working with very green wood.

I accept that this post most likely does not qualify me for a BB, as I did not properly document the tools used. I just used a hatchet, as shown and a two inch wide chisel.

Side Note: I also used some sandpaper to clean it up. When questioned on the functionality of the beautification of the mallet, I suggest, perhaps the function of  this is to woo a mate, like caveman!

Well it has been a long time since I have been to the forums and pisted anything.
But I love the pep idea and want to throw my hat into the ring. I made this simple mallet today but have to say that it is not measuring up to the other I have seen here. I will try again soon and post the results

Here is my 1st attempt at completing a sand badge bit tor the Permaculture Experience according to Paul.
This was made from an alder tree that my goats girdled and killed. (Damn goats)
At least I was able to make something useful out of their destructiveness.

First try at something like this. Was a lot of fun. My bit of wood was slightly bent, but it turned out okay.

I went out to the limb pile from cutting down a black walnut tree taking only what is called a carpenter's axe.  I liked the look of getting down to the dark heartwood for the handle.

Hickory log pushed out of the ground with a tractor a couple weeks ago.
Didn't use the bow saw, too dull.
The middle mallet is made from apple wood. The other small mallet is made from holly turned on my wood lathe.

Used the shaving horse to clean it up. Shaving horse made from old used lumber. Haven't made anything for the other end of it yet. Probably a spoon carving horse. Someday soon cause I need to make a spoon for another Badge Bit!!!
