Mend in Public Day

Cool! I have a new pair of pants that I want to pre-mend. I am taking a class right now that is teaching me very little. I have thought about bringing the pants into class and sewing patches into them there.

Unfortunately the lecture I have on Sat. is by zoom - just not the same! However, if I finish installing a new zipper in Hubby's farm snuggly, I've then got  one of his flannel plaid shirt to patch the collar of. That's assuming I can't get his jeans off him, because he's got a couple of fast expanding worn-to-holes spots that are going to be embarrassing if I don't get on to fixing them!

This is an incredible, unique idea! Now I have something extra to bring with me on my Saturday in Missoula (and I have two shirts that I've ripped on barbed wire that need fixing, as well).

This Saturday I have somewhere to go and can't bring something to mend with me. But no problem, I can mend/darn every day I want to.
In general I do not wait until it is a special day. I mend what there is to mend whenever I got time to do it.
If the weather is good, I sit in my garden. I think that is 'public' enough. :-)

I love this! Even if you don't have an event near you I don't see why you can't simply mend on a park bench. It's sure to strike up a conversation with others.

Is anyone doing this?

I have been teaching my grandchildren to mend. The boys were not as eager, but performed well.

Mend in Public day 2025 is this coming Saturday the 26th! You might be able to find an event in your area at the website. Or you could just do some mending in public.

On the website I found 1 event in my country and I read about it. But I have my reasons not to go there (they combine it with the national Dutch 'king's day' and the national colour orange, but I am not 'nationalist' at all).
I will do my own mending in my own way. I have a dress to repair for a friend (she bought it second-hand and found out it had some tiny holes), so that is my mending project.
