Mend in Public Day events are happening internationally and online so you can either attend a local event, host your own or mend at home and post online in support of the movement

Their website says:

On Saturday 20th April, join us on the streets for our first global Mend In Public Day. The idea is simple: get out into your local community and stitch in protest against disposable fashion. Amidst busy Saturday shoppers, we will repair our torn pockets and broken seams and spark conversations on making Loved Clothes Last.

Mend in Public Day stands as a beacon of change in a world inundated with fashion waste. By participating, you’ll be part of a global creative action resisting the cycle of excess through repair and reuse. Get your repair pile (or other fibre crafts!) at the ready, find a Mend In Public Day event near you or host your own. All skill levels and Fashion Revolutionaries welcome!

This seemed like something that lots of people here might be interested in... There are heaps of resources on the website including 'How to' guides and you can also find an event near you - Mend in Public Website

Is anyone doing this?

Cool! I have a new pair of pants that I want to pre-mend. I am taking a class right now that is teaching me very little. I have thought about bringing the pants into class and sewing patches into them there.

Unfortunately the lecture I have on Sat. is by zoom - just not the same! However, if I finish installing a new zipper in Hubby's farm snuggly, I've then got  one of his flannel plaid shirt to patch the collar of. That's assuming I can't get his jeans off him, because he's got a couple of fast expanding worn-to-holes spots that are going to be embarrassing if I don't get on to fixing them!

This is an incredible, unique idea! Now I have something extra to bring with me on my Saturday in Missoula (and I have two shirts that I've ripped on barbed wire that need fixing, as well).

If you find your local city doesn't already have an event you can set one up and then list it on their website too to reach more people: https://www.fashionrevolution.org/add-an-event/

Bit short notice though :)

This Saturday I have somewhere to go and can't bring something to mend with me. But no problem, I can mend/darn every day I want to.
In general I do not wait until it is a special day. I mend what there is to mend whenever I got time to do it.
If the weather is good, I sit in my garden. I think that is 'public' enough. :-)

I love this! Even if you don't have an event near you I don't see why you can't simply mend on a park bench. It's sure to strike up a conversation with others.

I have been teaching my grandchildren to mend. The boys were not as eager, but performed well.
