Ok. All Gardening BB's now use the 'new best final' naming convention.

Old: PEP BB aspect.level.bbname - Normal Legible BB Name

New: Normal Legible BB Name - PEP BB aspect.level.bbname

Mike,

1) I recall other badges Wood/Iron including "certify X number of others' sand/straw badges." Is that still a thing, or is that going away?

2) Do you know which badges are both "mostly no longer changing" and also "not actively being worked"? (i.e. Fair Game to BB)

These Badges look (to my totally untrained eye) mostly built out all they way up through iron:

- Natural Building
- Woodland Care
- Roundwood Woodworking
- Earthworks
- Dimensional Woodworking
- Rocket
- Foraging
- Metalworking

I'm sure you'll know which of those aren't actually complete; and which: if any? are!

It's the reverse issue, where it's not in Wood/Iron Gardening. But I'll hold it still all the same, and ignore for other badges until we've clarified.

A fun question came up today in the PEP call:

"What do you call a person who's pursuing PEP certification?"


We PEPPERS are building out PEP; which is a different part of the Venn Diagram. (Obviously, some of us fit in both categories).

My thought: perhaps our name is too good to keep just to ourselves. Especially when our task is finite (ostensibly finite, ha ha)

Awesome Jordan!  I tweaked a few tiny things.  I added a requirement to show the vehicles hooked together (or partially hooked together).  Otherwise someone sneaky could fake it by charging the battery with a charger.

hey mike i would have just edited this myself, i however was not able too.

In Charge-Carry-lithium-battery-power

Listed under the minimum requirements
 - Plug to charge from grid power source

I would change this to say either :
- Plug to charge from 110V or 220V

As i do not have grid power access, which makes this hard for people who are completely off grid.

Looks great, thanks!!!  I changed the order of the requirements so that the collected flies are last.  And I changed the wording for it to the "standard" wording we've been using lately:

   To document your completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (less than two minutes):
   - blah
   - blah
   - blah

And good catch on the charging options for the lithium pack.  I changed it already

We posted Animal Care a week ago so it's ripe for BB creation at Straw, Wood and Iron levels.  Have at it but let us know so that two people aren't making BBs for the same things at the same time.  There are plenty of BBs in that badge so 10 people could work on it at the same time if they coordinate.  Go team!!!

Are any un-linked BBs still fair game?

I'll likely be slower than everyone else, maybe a week per BB. I'd like to claim a couple BBs at a time to make sure no one else is writing them.

Shall I post here which ones I'm working on? Or is starting the wiki with "under construction at the top" a better way to claim BBs?

Wiki's are infinitely editable by the creator, right?

 When you set up the WIKI, it defaults to WIKI is editable by staff.  So then us staff folks can all tinker with it.  That's why if you make it 90% good, we can go in and touch it up easily.  And we can change it in the future to add/remove requirements.

Cover something with a tarp so that it stays put for 6 months - ½ point
Cover cargo with a tarp so it stays dry during transit - ½ point

Thanks! The How to create a BB was well written!

I tried the other tarp one: https://permies.com/wiki/143781/pep-homesteading/Cover-cargo-tarp-transit-Homestead

Since "transit" was in the description, I focused on that. But if it doesn't rain in transit, the cargo would be dry anyway. so I don't know if it's better to change the requirements to spray cargo with a hose and show that it remained dry?


I think I will claim these two next, if no one else is working on them?

Set up a mosquito trap - ½ point
Add appropriate minnows/goldfish to animal water trough - ½ point

Thanks Amy, you're kicking it!  I did make some changes.  I fiddled the "provide proof" section to use the standard wording about pics or video.  

I figure we can't expect them to time their trip around the rain so I just put a clarification that the certifier can decide if it was good enough.  Minor tweaks here and there.  

Great job!  Thanks for doing these!  I should be working on the Electrical ones but the days are too long in mid summer.  Last night I didn't get inside till 8:30...

Cool! The corrections make more sense.

It's rainy season where I am and not much I can do outside in the pouring rain. So working on BBs is a welcome creative outlet!

I did some plumbing Straw BBs tonight.  If anyone has some know-how about water filters, please review the ones for water filters

I just got plumbing completely done!!!

Hi Ashley, I'm working on Homestead a couple BBs at a time. It takes me a few days to finish, so I post here the ones I'm working on. That way there is no overlap.

Next I'm working on these three:

Set up an equipment file for owner’s manuals and other equipment information - ½ point
Set up a spare parts kit in the shop for a piece of equipment - ½ point
Make, attach and fill a mobile tool kit for a piece of equipment (shear pins, wrench, etc) - 1 point

So other than these, any unlinked BB in homestead is open.  :)
