What's the deal w the grizzlies there? any other critters of note?
For my part, I've seen
deer, elk, and wild turkeys at Basecamp. A fair number of squirrels and
mice, though I think the cats scare most of those off. This past summer we heard coyotes howling at night, but as far as I know no one never saw them.
At the Lab - the more remote parcel of
land that abuts National Forest - we've seen the animals listed above, plus the trail cams have spied our new resident moose from time to time. The trail cams would catch coyotes on occasion, and maybe one instance of a mountain lion in the past.
Haven't seen any bears, though long-time resident
Fred noticed a pile of bear scat on the Lab sometime maybe a year ago...? Maybe springtime of last year? He likely has a photo of it on his own thread, and I've not had a chance to track it down. Based on what I've observed, I think bears would hang out more in the National Forest lands because we drive vehicles round the Lab a few times a week (but that's just speculation, and I'm no bear behaviourist).
