It appears I am living my life further from the mainstream than I thought.  I posted elsewhere that I was spending more time than I would like in hospital waiting rooms.  Well, I got into a “Whatever happened to....” mood.    I didn’t get too far. One ex boss was doing time as a sexually dangerous person. Another person I knew has done at least 38 years in state prison for misc burglaries. Hell, it has been 50 years since I got a ticket.

Good for you. (speeding tickets)

Btw, to the best of my knowledge, I don't know anyone that has been in prison. And it has probably been 26 years since I got a speeding ticket.

so you are doing better than me when it comes to driving.

One year I was bored and thought I would check out what happen to my friends. Most of them turned out fine.

Hi Anne,

To stress a point, all my lack of a record means is that I haven’t been caught speeding.

You should check out Dr. Wayne Dyer. He has some great books, audio books and youtube videos. He really is amazing and it might help with your inner peace.

I suspect a lot of the people here live out of sync with the mainstream world.

Accepting that it's okay to not be "normal" is a huge and difficult step.

I agree with elle about Dr. Wayne Dyer.  His books are amazing.  I learned so much about why things happen the way they do. These would make good hospital reading material. So would Louis Lamour.

Just because you have not gotten caught speeding is not all that bad. You are probably still a good driver.

I hate to say it, but being "normal" doesn't seem ok anymore!  So thankful for the great examples here at Permies.

Never having been normal, I didn't find it hard.
What I found hard was finding a place where I was allowed to be myself
Yay Permies!!

Hi John,  Whatever you focus on expands.  So what if you listen to the media and focus on the covid stuff from their perspective and the world is about to end? Or what if you focus on the wife having cancer and you start dating again leaving her behind when she was not sick? Or what if you focus on work? How about the good you have done to others? Focus on feeding some of the starving people in the world. Focus on the Chinese govt killing and torturing religious people. Focus on what God has done for you. Focus on what is right with me instead of wrong...

Still praying for you two every day.

Sooo, if I understand correctly, you feel bad about not being a criminal?
Maybe we can help you finding something useful to break the law and get fined.

John, perhaps the title of your thread shouldn't have been "What is wrong with me?" so much as it should have been "What is wrong with the world?"

It seems that the world is getting darker. People who easily resort to evil deeds are becoming more mainstream.

I don't want to be a downer...that's not my intent. I simply want to encourage you to keep on living a life with ethics.

Your headline, “What is wrong with me,” in conjunction with “spending more time than I would like in hospital waiting rooms” and having “got into a ‘whatever happened to’ mood” and the years you’ve referenced, clarifies your situation.
In my youth I couldn’t understand how my dad could simply see someone or hear them say something and make what I thought were “snap judgments” that in the end were always correct. Now, years later, I understand.
You’re mature. That’s what wrong with you—if you want to describe it that way. There is a point reached in life when you really don’t need to hear or see everything someone does or says in order to know the outcome. Technology will always advance, but people will always be people. There are only about seven basic stories in the world, and everything is essentially a version of those seven plots—this applies as much to reality as fiction.
So you see, you’ve probably seen and heard it all before.
And of course, we can’t deny everything exists in a state of order to disorder. A drinking glass never starts out shattered and then repairs itself. We don’t start out aged and become youthful. Everything, in spite of efforts to delay it, eventually deteriorates. In short, on this side of temporal existence, everything eventually turns to fertilizer—so to speak.

In the last 5 years, I’ve written 2 letters to be presented to judges for good friends who somehow got caught up in a bad choice or with bad friends and made decisions that forced them to be facing felony charges. I’ve known multiple people in the last 10 years with near to death experiences.

I’ve never been drunk or tried any recreational drugs (many friends who have.) Feeling out of control or numbing my emotional pain with anything other than ice cream or now non-dairy ice cream... just doesn’t really appeal to me. I probably ought to thank God for that more often than I do.

Nothing is wrong with you! You’re on Permies because cultural ‘normal’ likely isn’t cutting it for you, like it’s not for the rest of us.

Our society is filled with walking wounded who haven’t found low risk high benefit activities that fill their tank and bring them joy.

Mainstream is overpromises and under delivers. Enjoying being an outlier until somehow through permie world domination... we can become the new mainstream? (C0v1d & mass mandates could push permie ideals further along.)

Blessings,
