Gardening today. The cold drizzle didn't encourage me to hang out in the garden very long today. I am finding quite a few fun sprouts though. Nasturtiums look like tiny bear paws. π»πΎ Peas are trying to find friends to lean on; luckily I planted them near the rock jacks and fencing so I can direct them to their sturdy friends. Fava bean sprouts are a larger, darker green and more leathery leaf than the peas. π Looks like maybe a peach tree is sprouting in one of my paths. π We'll wait for it to spread its leaves out so we can identify it better. Creeping dogbane is sprouting in my patch. πβ οΈ Fred's excited to harvest it for cordage later this year. What looks like a plantain has sprouted up out of nowhere. Not sure how I missed it until today. π€ Fred also found some apple sprouts. ππ Yummers!
The transplanted tomatoes are mostly doing well. Two out of about 16 have decided to ride the struggle bus, but the rest are happily growing. As folks around here find them in the hugels, they happily come tell me how the babies are doing. It's cute that everyone reports on them to me. π I'm the tomato mom I guess. π
Today I planted white beans, black garbanzo beans, painted mountain corn(?), some brown bean, what looked like Catnip, and maybe tetra dill? Maybe astronomy and high carotene sweet corn too. I apparently forgot my record keeping the day I threw all this stuff in a jar a month ago. Squirrel! Oh yeah, also threw some borage in my strawberry patch. π
After the long day, we came home from dinner and Erica had set up in the classroom to show us her tap dancing. πΆππΌ Chris and I sat in the balcony and watched as she happily tapped away. Lyra ran around for a while stirred up by the music, the sawing in the wood shop, and the tapping, but eventually calmed down enough to curl up on our laps and pass out. πΊπ΄ Seeing someone else display their passion is touching. Erica has seemingly blossomed in her time here, and I'm so proud (of her) to see all the growth. Such a cool gal to have around. π
Here's a snippet of her being amazing:
