Helped move a piano today. Meet a cool chicken and doggo. Ate a tasty burrito. Bought way too many groceries. Well, not way too many. I bought some more vegan chocolate chips because I feel guilty eating chocolate chips in front of Erica and I want her to be able to enjoy simple pleasures like this too. πŸ˜…

Went to check and see if the store had my chainsaw battery in yet. They didn't. It's been 5 weeks. I just want start cutting some small trees for my bed, guys. Let's get ourselves together and make some magic happen. I want to use my new chainsaw.. 😭😭

Tomorrow we go out to the plot! Now that it's warmed up I have a bunch more planting to do. Gonna need to figure out where to put it all. πŸ€”πŸ˜

Have you tried this vegan chocolate yet?  OMG
I'm not vegan, but this is currently my favorite chocolate.

Did Erica get some of the Theo that I sent?  Most of that was vegan as well.  It's a great chocolate time to be vegan :)

No, I haven't! Vegan chocolate is a new concept to me since it hasn't been a food constraint I've had to deal with long term before now. First time living with this many vegans and thinking outside my regular food boxes.

I'm pretty sure everyone got some of the Theo you sent. It was a chocolate extravaganza while it lasted. πŸ«πŸ˜‹ So delicious. When Alana was here she made vegan chocolate too, and it was so simple and tasty. I hadn't thought of how easy it would be to make it taste good without dairy. πŸ€”

I tasted the chocolate chips I got yesterday, and they're so rich. It's making me a believer. 😁

Five More Days!

Today we helped clean up the FPH, then headed out to Allerton to move a piano. You read that right. We now have a Forest of Piano. I haven't been so delighted to see someone else so delighted in a long time. /happy sigh

After that, we went over to our plot to work on things. It was a really warm day today, so I was hesitant to plant all the things I need to plant. Instead, I filled a couple jugs with rainwater, and hauled them over to water the strawberries I planted a few weeks ago. I think about 35/40 are alive and well. Of the three raspberries I planted, two are sprouting leaves already. One is really stoked. The third one is still trying to decide how it feels about the world and is shy to grow. I watered it a bunch today to convince it to come out and play.

Helped Chris for a while with the bed frame. Mostly moral support. Occasionally holder of things. But the frame is now in place, and if we ever get our dang chainsaw battery we'll be able to cut mattress and shelf support poles. Being so close yet so far. Only mostly frustrating. I took a break for a while to build a campfire in our ring and cook some franks. I'd accidentally chopped some onions/chives earlier while I was sickling grass, so I chopped them up a bit and threw them into the pan for a little more flavor with the dogs.

In the late afternoon, I transplanted some moschata and the rapini babies. It might have been a little early for the moschata, but I have faith in their ability to overcome the struggles I set before them. Plus I still have about a dozen more to plant. I offered some of the moschata and tomatoes to Fred since I have a bunch going and he was talking about buying some tomatoes - for shame! I want my neighbors to have tasty treats too; plus Fred gave me a bunch of persimmon seeds to plant in a couple months. Yum! My tomato seedlings are slow to grow, but are figuring it out. The black cherry ones seem to be struggling, as do one of the packs of yellow pear tomatoes - not sure if it's the cherry variety or regular guys. I planted some Appaloosa beans (woohoo!), Trionfo Violetto beans, Fargo Yellow Pear tomatoes, Hopi Red Amaranth, three varieties of sugar/snap peas, and some PA Dutch Butter Flavor Popcorn as well today. Really excited about that popcorn. Cross all your fingers and toes, folks. I wanna pop that corn! Also walked over a bunch of tepary beans to Fred so he can get some going on his plot too. I think those beans will be next on my planting day. I might try to get up there this week after work one day to get more planted while the sun is up but not blazing.

I also set up the GoPro to do a time-lapse today. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but as soon as I get it assembled I'll post it for you. I haven't been posting any long videos lately because whenever it's windy, I have to edit out all the loud wind noise from the videos. That takes so much time. If I end up getting the money from the BRK pot, I'll get the Media Mod for my Hero 8 and it should filter out most of the wind noise. I might also get the external mic setup because that's supposedly a great add on for wind noise as well. I have y'all in mind, don't worry. I just don't have the excess funds for toys at the moment.

Greg Martin wrote:Nice, thank you....somehow it always makes more physical sense to me with a picture.  I think I just have a minor fantasy of having a bed on a RMH thermal mass.  Not sure how practical that would be or not.  :)

I've been trying to plan an RMH that is part wall, part bed platform. I'm thinking if the bed part is well packed with mass, there shouldn't be a danger of spontaneous combustion.  Just my 2 cents.

Nine! I love that you see the beauty in something as simple as the color and texture of wood. I'll photograph the same stuff because I see the beauty in it again and again. When mom and I visited Glacier park 3 consecutive years, I took no less than about a dozen rolls of film each trip, repeating shots at the places we saw on all 3 trips.

I had to zoom in to find your deer in the snow photo.
